Macbook air 2020 issue with transferring data to external drives

im not able to transfer files form macbook to an external hard disk. Will modifying the permission delete the existing content in the hard disk?

External G-Drive Pro says read-only under permissions I have a new G-Drive Pro external hard drive to replace a previous model of the same make. I have it set up to Time Machine on my desktop, but when I try to copy other files to it I am unable to- it says "read only" under permissions with no way to change permissions. Apple support article says Time Machine prevents this- but I was able to do it with my older G-Drive Pro. Does this mean I can't back up my laptop to this external drive?

Permissions Errors for files on multiple external hard drives Hi I am having a digital declutter, going through multiple older external hard drives and transferring the files I want to get to new hard drives and putting them sorting them at the same time. Some files I can't open or delete as I don't have the permissions to do so. As well as having on new drives, they will also go on my NAS and uploaded to cloud backup. I am dealing with thousands of files - from video to docs etc. Is there a quick way or software I can use to select a bunch of files in one got rather than update each file one by one which will take too long to do. Thanks Matt

NO, Repairing/Modifying Permissions will not delete the data on your external drive. On the other hand, Formatting the external drive will delete all the data.
