Lexmark scanner suddenly won't work with Cataline 10.15.7

Until a few days ago (about 10) my Lexmark MS310dn printer/scanner worked fine. Now it won't open scanner. I've reinstalled the printer, there is a 'scan' tab. Select open scanner and then I get a message "waiting for scanner", and I keep waiting until the cows come home. I've installed the driver from the Lexmark site (yesterday). The problem computer is a late 2013 27 inch. Catalina 10.15.7. Cannot remember which update the scanner decided not to work from. Everything works ok from our other Mac which is a Mid 2010 21.5 OS High Sierra 10.13.6 so it cannot be the printer. All on the same network.

Sorry you are having this problem. from what you describe, it sounds as if the Lexmark software is not yet compliant with the latest version of Catalina that you installed. I assume that Lexmark will again update their driver, but there is no way to know how long it might take, unless you ask them and they respond. In the meantime, as noted, Imagineer Capture should work, although it will not be full featured. You can also look into purchasing Due Scan. It is full featured. You can download and try it for free. Good luck.

Apple did not decide to change everything again. They made available an update to our operating system which addressed operational issues, which we all were free to install or not. It is Lexmark's responsibility to ensure that their drivers are compliant with the various operating systems out there around the world. Apple can not be responsible for writing the drivers for literally many hundreds of printers and scanners out there today. They do not have access to the proprietary code. They do, however, keep all vendors such as Lexmark fully advised as to all upcoming changes in their OSs. It is Lexmark's responsibility to support their products.

Oh dear, have I struck a nerve Ronasara? A simple request about a non-working scanner. Well a couple of weeks ago I updated my 2nd iMac desktop (High Sierra) and now that won't print altho it scans ok. According to Apple the machine won't run on anything higher than High Sierra so I cannot upgrade. But Apple have altered their software and my peripherals won't work. I'm sure that I'll fix it eventually, however I'm sure that they should remain compliant with existing software.

Get off your high horse.
