Mojave 2020-005 Security Update Causing Major Problems!

The problem is caused by having installed the security upgrade 2020-005 and Safari 14.0 in the wrong order (Safari first, then 2020-005 second). This causes a myriad of problems. To fix, have to wipe Mojave OS clean of the results. One solution is to use AppZapper to wipe out Safari, and reinstall it in second place (after 2020-005). The easy way to do it is thus:

If you are dealing with the FATAL situation, with Safari 14.0 and 2020-005 installed (in that order) and wishing you  were dead:

    Use AppZapper to remove Safari 14.0 and all its harmful byproducts.  Leave 2020-005 in place (now first position), and re-install Safari  (now in second position, after 2020-005)..  AppZapper seems able to ferret out all the Safari 14.0 junk and leave your OS ready for re-updating with Safari 14.0 as if it had never been installed.

  This works also if you only installed Safari and realize your mistake.  Just Zapp it, install 2020-005 and then install Safari.  No problems.

10.14.6 Supplemental Update (Safari 14) Released to Fix Previous Issues - Apple posted it yesterday (Oct 1) and it seems to fix issues for some folks.

I installed both the revised 2020-005 and the Safari update on my iMac (together) last night and while it did update Safari to 14610.1.28.1.10, it did not increment the OS build number. It still shows macOS 10.14.6 (18G6032) which is (afaik) the build from the ill-fated original initial September release, not 10.14.6 (18G2032) referenced in the mrmacintosh post.

I'm crossing my fingers as I'm not convinced the supplemental update installed correctly given what I'm seeing in the Apple System Log (ASL). Apple icon -> About This Mac ->System Report -> Software -> Logs -> Apple System Log (ASL) Messages

Mojave Security Update 2020-005 has been pulled, it no longer shows in software update. That's a good thing:
