Security update 2020-005 Mojave 10.14.6

Can I go without this update? My iMac (2012 late edition) is getting excruciatingly slow after installing that update. I had to revert back to my previous state from the time machine backup. Pls. advice; I am at fix!!

I've mentioned this in two other threads, but I have two problems on two different machines since the upgrade.

  1. The Control/Scroll Wheel (or two finger scroll on a trackpad) doesn't zoom the screen.
  2. I cannot add new users accounts. Well I can add them, but they don't show up anywhere.

I'm currently upgrading the MBA to Catalina to see if this fixes either of those problems.

But I understand that Catalina is still more resource hungry!! Without upgrading the hardware, particularly the RAM which I suppose should be above 8 mb and the hard disk to SSD, the problem will aggravate more. Prior to upgrading to Mojave (1 year back), I was quite comfortable with Yosemite. But I was compelled to upgrade because my google drive which became "backup & sync", refused to sync with the mac os any further!!

I got crazy Brave & upgraded one of my 10.14.6. accounts with this update, but I did it booted from a 10.14.6 Clone tp Apply it to the Non Booted 10.4.6 volume.

Seemed to go quickly, was slow on startup from the upgraded volume, lots of BeachBalls, but I had dozens of things open at restart, I noticed in Activity Monitor that the Launch Services & Spotlight indexes were both being rebuilt & using lots of CPU%, took about 20 to 30 minutes for things to settle down & normal speed returned.

One note is somehow Safari got damaged & would not Open, luckily I could get a Dev download of just that.

This was on an iMac with 32 GB of RAM, so I surmise if you only have 8GB of RAM tied to a 5400 RPM drive that it could be excruciatingly slow for hours.

I have a trusty 2012 MBA with only 4GB of RAM which has worked remarkably well with Mojave for a while.

I just upgraded to Catalina, and aside from losing a couple of old apps that no longer work, the computer is working fine so far.

Virtual Memory seems to do the job well. All I use it for is Mail, messaging, Slack, Daylite, Excel, Safari, etc. No heavy lifting.

I am referring to the link provided by you:

Following that suggestion, I have installed only the security update for Mojave while ignored the Safari update to 14. Now it is working fine. I suppose, Safari update contains the bug and primarily responsible for the issue?

Yesterday one technical person from Apple rang me up and talked for a while regarding the updates. He wanted to figure out where actually the bug lies; Was it in the security update or Safari update. He has sent me a mail whose exact contents I am unable to post, because of their confidentiality issue, but that contains some instructions of sending certain machine specifications to Apple technical team.

Thnx for your suggestion of posting the feedback following which I have been able to draw the attention of Apple.

Yes I understand that the "sequence" of the installation matters. But apart from performance issues, the updated Safari version 14 interface is not at all acceptable to me, as I saw that earlier. Any way that was a personal liking. But are you getting any performance improvement in the updated Safari version?
