You do not need any third party antivirus app. They are not needed, use system resources while providing no benefit, and may cause problems.

There are no Mac viruses (malware that self replicates), so there's nothing to find. There are lots of Trojans (malware that can't get on your computer unless you put it there). AV software will not make the slightest attempt to stop you from installing a Trojan, and rarely will even tell you afterwards you have. So in short, all AV software is completely useless.

Your defense is paying attention to what you download, and where from.

Luck has nothing to do with it. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a macOS "virus".

The only "crap" is non-Apple "antivirus" junk, and there's a lot of it. Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk.

Apple already protects the computer against malware. But in some cases, the computer may need additional protection against its user.
