Spinning wheel icon

I constantly have a spinning wheel icon on the top of my new iPhone SE 2020 by the WiFi icon. I have closed all apps, stopped background refresh and other common steps but no luck. I have the latest iOS. Any suggestions????

iPhone SE, iOS 14

Me too! So annoying. If I turn the phone off and restart it goes away, but I am tired of restarting my phone so often. I turned Siri off. No change, so I just turned it back on. Just tired of seeing that spinning wheel. Mine is also a SE2020. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Exact same problem. Not with my old iPhone 6 that was slow but worked fine........but with the iPhone SE2 I bought a a few weeks ago. Doing a hard reboot seems to stop it, but using message app or dictation restarts the unending rotation of the network icon and battery drain. Why can't Apple fix this...makes me very annoyed that I upgraded to the new phone......

Same problem here- I am a brand new iPhone user and just purchased my iPhone SE 2000 a few days ago. Since then I have seen the spinning wheel icon pop up numerous times, upon seeing some suggestions listed online I tried updating to 14.3, turning Siri off and on and using it, restarting the phone, etc. Nothing works and the spinning wheel always comes back. I stumbled upon this community thread and am wondering if like most others it is an issue with using dictation, which I do to send text messages which appears to cause the spinning wheel to pop up. If that really is the case, that is a SERIOUS issue as most everyone uses dictation these days for text messages, emails FB messaging etc. Right now I have tried turning off analytics per the poster above to see if that might work, but If I have to turn dictation off to get rid of this battery-draining bug there is no way I'm keeping this phone.

Mrush336, no I am right. I was responding to seb9316 NOT you.

They said “...I have seen the spinning wheel icon pop up numerous times, ...”

Popping up numerous times thru the day is perfectly normal. The thread topic is a constant spinning wheel which seb9316 had not described.

So I talked to Apple yesterday 1/20/21. My call was elevated to a senior tech sys rep. She and I spent well over an hour documenting the bug. We did a full file recording of my SE2 as the error occurred then was impossible to stop without a hard reboot. I sent the 70M file to the tech through a support portal that the tech provided. They are sending to iOS systems lab for study. She agreed it was a clear bug/error. She will contact me in a few days to let me know outcome. I have her contact info, so I am hoping that this will get some action soon....BTW she was very knowledgeable and I have been doing IT for 30+ years. We worked quickly and she got the issue rapidly. I am optimistic.

It is absolutely not normal have you completely avoided or ignored all the previous post regarding this??

It happens every time I use dictation and the spinning wheel stays there long after I’m done. I don’t have any photos or anything else on the iCloud it is not trying to sync anything. I just use dictation to post this message and sure enough there’s the spinning wheel keeping going round and round and round. It is using dictation that is causing it. It is a bug. a bug. a bug!!!!!

There is something wrong. I have spent over 80 hours on the phone with Apple level 2 support since November. It is a bug in IOS 14.2 and now 14.3. The only was to get it to completely stop is to turn off Dictation, which is Talk to Text.

I too am waiting on a call back from Apple Support. The issue has been sent higher up to the IOS Developers.

I’m also waiting for a call back from Apple engineers. I was able to make a screen recording of this issue being triggered by using dictation. I submitted the recording to them yesterday.

This seems to be an known issue, but it doesn’t appear that much is being done by Apple to address it. I’m pretty disappointed with Apple. They should be better than this.

To anyone else who’s having this issue: set your phone to activate Siri with the home button, then after using dictation and the spinning wheel icon shows up, press the home button to activate Siri and then press it again to deactivate it & the spinning wheel should go away. May take a couple of times pressing the home button to make it work but it’s at least a little easier work around than having to restart the phone.

Of course it would be nice if Apple got on this & released a real fix for it.

You are absolutely correct about activating Siri sometimes multiple times with thumb scan; however I’m sure you would agree this is certainly a pain in the rear to have to do. We all pay really good hard money for phones that should not have this common problem, moreover apple has to know about this but does nothing to correct it. I have 100 percent confirmed it does take away from battery life. I have a work phone so I didn’t use mine at full charge and took my wife’s at full charge and compared mine with hers as were I disabled Siri with hers and activated mine in the morning and mine was almost half line. We both bought ours on the same exact day and battery life was at 99 percent

Yes I agree it’s certainly a pain to have to activate and deactivate Siri continuously, as well as having this problem drain the battery. This is my 1st iPhone, I got it for free as a special deal for switching to Verizon, but so far I am pretty disappointed. Not only does it have this spinning wheel bug, but it also won’t notify me of Facebook messenger messages even though I have all notification alerts turned on, another issue there’s apparently no solution for. Neither of these issues were a problem on the Samsung galaxy I was using before. Wish I could swap back. 🙁

It’s so unfortunate that Apple has not corrected this issue. I called I believe 4 times and created a case about this issue and of course they said they were not familiar with the issue. They forwarded my complaint to engineers and they said it was normal. I explained no way is this normal and they relied again with to deactivate SIRI; which in fact did stop the spinning wheel completely but I kind of like having talk to text. After approximately 3 months of back and forth with Apple support it is of my opinion that we’re stuck with a spinning wheel so long as we use SIRI talk to text. I look forward to going to Samsung when my contract ends with 8 more months of payments or if I can pay off sooner. Again the phone itself is nice and small and works otherwise great but **** does this thing eat batteries when that spinning wheel is moving
