Spinning wheel icon

I constantly have a spinning wheel icon on the top of my new iPhone SE 2020 by the WiFi icon. I have closed all apps, stopped background refresh and other common steps but no luck. I have the latest iOS. Any suggestions????

I am on my 3rd SE 2020 now, traded my first one back in at the store for another, same problem. FInally store agreed to overnight me another one from a completely different warehouse to see if perhaps they just got a batch of bad phones (unlikely since others are having the same problem but what the heck.) Sure enough 3rd phone came in the mail today and it is having the same issue. At this point I agree I think I'll just keep this one for awhile and just deal with the spinning wheel issue by shutting it off using Siri. It's a pain but I had already ordered accessories (screen protector, case etc) for this phone, plus it seems to be an incredible hassle to try to convince Verizon to let me swap out for a Samsung (no discount and they are trying to charge me a $50 restocking fee if I switch phones even though this one is clearly defective.) It's the world we live in.

That is exactly how I have my phone set. I have the "Hey Siri" command turned off and only the "activate Siri using the home button" command enabled. It does not matter, it still has the spinning wheel whenever I use dictation (or actually all I have to do is just press the microphone button and it will start spinning.) It is a bug in the SE 2020 phones.

i’m absolutely appalled and disgusted with Apple over this. hours and hours over 12 on the phone with them telling me it’s this and that getting me to do things on my phone. Finally they send data off to the technical team and say it’s a system fault that they know about on many SE phones. And they’re trying to do something about it but they don’t know when that will be. Then I get fobbed off with its cosmetic. I keep on trying to explain to them that I have disabilities and health issues and the spinning wheel really does affect me. Plus my phone keeps freezing . They don’t care they are purposely and knowingly selling a phone with a knowen system fault on it I’m just saying you have to deal with it because systems are not covered under the warranty. How Apple are allowed to get away with this and sell phones with a known faults on them without disclosing and telling people. And then when you complain you get told we know about it but it’s not covered under the warranty. It’s absolutely appalling I’ve had Apple phones for years and been really happy with them but this has completely changed my mind. They did send me a new phone after hours complaining but the new phone has exactly the same fault on. And they completely point blank refuse a refund because it’s a system fault so it’s not covered under warranty. Even when I’ve explain because of my disabilities I really can’t cope with Spinning wheel. I just got tailed you’re not the only one with the problem many people with SE have this problem.

I also told them about this forum where many people are complaining about the issue. And I just get told Apple don’t have full room so you can’t see anything on the Internet about it. The customer service is absolutely appalling. And I don’t know how legally Apple can get away with selling a phone with a known fault on it without disclosing it. And then just saying tough it’s not covered by warranty even know we know we sold you this with this fault on

I told you it is cosmetic.

Apple told you it is cosmetic.

You wasted a good replacement phone to find out it isn’t a fault.

There is only anecdotal evidence it is causing any battery drain.

Time to relax and ignore it would be my continued advice.

Next thing you will worry about the location services arrow changing from black to white.

This is not a system fault, it is a problem that began with IOS 14.2 and causes the same problem in other iPhone models. I have spent about 80 hours on the phone with Apple Support since November. It begins spinning when you use Dictation aka talk to text.

In fact, last Wednesday, I was once again on the phone with Apple Support regarding my iPhone SE 2020. During the call, I upgraded my mom's iPhone 7 from IOS 14.1 to 14.4. After upgrading the software past 14.1, her iPhone started spinning, just like it does on my iPhone SE 2020. I turned Dictation off, restarted the phone, the spinning stopped and has never returned.

I believe this spinning wheel issue only effects iPhones with the older design body with the round home button at the bottom.

Hi you clearly dont have this phone or this issue. And understand what is happening and how annoying it it. I have been told by apple it is a system fault. I see you reply the same to everyone just like you are an apple representative trying to sweep this issue under the carpet. Please do not respond anymore as you are refusing to listen to people and do not have the issue your self.

we pay a lot of money for Apple phones and I don’t see why we should have to put up with this software fault that they know about. It’s all very well just saying turn off dictation. But some of us like me have disabilities health issues where we have to use dictation. And why should we pay our good money for a phone that Apple no have a system fault where the wheel will just continuously spin And again some people have sensory impairments et where this is extremely frustrating an impact on their health and well-being. when I buy a new phone I don’t expect it to have a Software issue on that the company already know about and not disclosing and they just expect us to say oh well that’s okay well it’s not okay Apple.

If I knew it had this fault I would’ve never of bought it in the first place because I knew how much you that would impact me.

Yes, a problem with the IOS. I agree. I am paralyzed on the left side of my body and rely on dictation because I have to do everything on life with only one hand.

Here is my suggestion, tell Apple Support that you are sick of dealing with the constant issues. If your iPhone is still under the original 1 year warranty, ask them to replace the phone with a different model. Apple second level support has the ability to put in this request.

Once I upgraded my iPad to 14.2, I immediately noticed that it all of the sudden had a drastically shorter battery life and took much longer to charge.

Sadly and why I’m so fuming as I’ve tried thisI’ve said I’ll be happy for her to give me any phone that doesn’t do this but they refused and asked for a refund and I’ve been told because it’s a software issue it doesn’t come under warranty only hardware issue comes under warranty so there’s nothing they will do. I’ve tried everything explaining about my disabilities and how this is really impacting on my health. They just don’t care. How they are legally allowed to sell the phone they know has a Software fault on it. I don’t know. But they are and point blank absolutely refuse to do anything about it

I am not sure what to tell you. You are probably talking to the wrong people. After almost 4 months of dealing with this issue and Apple sending me 2 replacement iPhone SE 2020, I finally spoke with the right person this week at Apple Support. Apple is sending me new iPhone (totally different model).

They sent me a replacement phone but it had the same issue. It’s quite nice to actually speak to someone else with disabilities health issues that has problems and understands the issue. I really feel like I’ve hit a brick wall with it if I don’t see why I should have to put up with the problem it’s got to the point where I have to turn my phone off every time are use it which is really difficult for me with extremePsoriatic arthritis in my hands. Apple just don’t care. But maybe as well it’s because this is the cheap phone and I don’t really care about the cheap products as much as they do the people with the money for the expensive products
