Spinning wheel icon

I constantly have a spinning wheel icon on the top of my new iPhone SE 2020 by the WiFi icon. I have closed all apps, stopped background refresh and other common steps but no luck. I have the latest iOS. Any suggestions????

iPhone SE, iOS 14

that won’t work it’s been confirmed by Apple technical team it’s a fault on the system software on many of the SE phones Apple know about it. And it’s to do with when you use dictation it sets off the spinning wheel which will not stop until you power down the phone. which for some people especially people with disabilities and sensory issues is extremely annoying and frustrating and prevents me from being able to use the phone. . It’s nothing to do with background apps it’s a fault on the phone Apple know all about The fault but are refusing to replace or deal with it as they say software isn’t covered under warranty so you just have to deal with it. Even though we spent money on a new phone to Apple now has this problem and he is continuing to sell phones knowing this fault is on them disgusting and disgraceful of apple

Sorry, but this is not the case for me and many others here.. I’ve always had my “background app refresh” turned off and I still had the spinning wheel.

Most of us here have already tried these simple solutions. I will add that pressing the home button to activate Siri and then pressing it again to cancel seems to work for me. Sometimes I have to do this a couple times to make the spinning wheel stop. I’m now leaving my dictation turned on and occasionally have to use this trick to get rid of the spinning wheel. Thanks to the person who shared that workaround.

turning the phone to airplane mode stops the spinning wheel. But the phone is not much use in airplane mode. The spinning wheel to me indicates that something is running in the background all the time and I have not been able to figure out what it is I’ve tried everything. I also believe it is a bug. I just purchased my iphone se 2020 three days ago to replace my iPhone 6. I did not have this issue with the iPhone 6. My concern is that it is draining the battery and the battery life is short to begin with with the iPhone SE. Really hope that Apple comes up with a fix for this.

yes I’ve been told by Apple it’s a software system fault on some of the SE phones Apple are very aware of this. But they don’t care as software isn’t covered under the warranty. So they’re still selling the phones without telling people of the now an issue with the software. It’s to do with when you open dictation it sets off the spinning wheel and only way to shut it off is to power down the phone. It’s unbelievable Apple know about this refusing refusing to do anything about it and still selling the phoneThey just say there’s nothing you can do about it because it’s software and software isn’t covered under any warranty. So basically They’ve sold us all phones that have a fault that they know of and they just don’t care. My advice is do complain and don’t take all the rubbish they will try and fob you off with everything to say it’s not his problem. Asked for your phone to be sent to the technical team and they will confirm it is the system fault the more people complain. Then maybe Apple will do something about it but I’m not holding my breath

I have the exact same issue with my iPad Air3 and brand new iPad Air 4. Restarting your device only helps for a few minutes but within an hour it starts up again and doesn’t stop. I have gone the support route a few times with my iPad Air 3 and they always tell me to restore my device and reinstall everything. I hate that this is their go to ‘fix’ every time there’s a problem. And guess what, that is only a temporary solution and doesn’t work.

i’ve had my iPhone SE 2020 now for about a week and the spinning wheel is not constant anymore. I have Siri turned off because I never use it but I still use dictation when searching on the web. for the first four or five days it was spinning constantly. I have a fifth generation iPad 2017 which has never had this issue nor did my old iPhone 6 that I had. I believe this issue is only related to newer devices and I think it’s not so much a problem as it is a perception on peoples part that something is going on and they can’t figure it out and it’s driving them crazy as it was with me. I believe Apple will come up with a fix for this even if it’s just a software upgrade that does not let you see the wheel spinning even if it is spinning. Apple still makes the best devices on the market as far as I’m concerned after having spent 20 years using android and Windows products. give it a little time and I’m sure they’ll come up with something. The fix will have to come up through their software developers so bringing your device to the store is not going to help with this issue. Just my observation with my new phone in my opinion for what that’s worth.

Sorry but if you’re spinning wheel just disappeared one day then it is not the same issue the rest of us are having. Our SE 2020 phones (mine included) pop up the spinning wheel whenever we use dictation and the only way to get it to shut off is to activate or deactivate Siri or restart the phone. I’ve had my phone for about three weeks now and it still does it but looking in this discussion form there are complaints about it going all the way back to last summer when Apple tech support was first notified about it and they still haven’t done anything about it, so no I must strongly disagree that apple makes the best products on the market or has the best tech support. (On a side note I also miss the much more intuitive user interface of the Android OS on my Samsung Galaxy but that’s neither here nor there in regards to this discussion.)

Your summary is spot on.

Until I have seen empirical evidence in the form of battery graphics with and without dictation on, all ither factors identical, then the link between ‘the wheel’ and battery consumption is not proven.

Yes Apple make some of the best hardware on the market, Samsung and Huawei are catching up

You just need to buy into the fact that increased security and being able to use the same ios on all models from iphone 6S to 12 without performance loss sometimes has glitches. Important ones get ironed out quickly, cosmetic ones do eventually.

totally agree apple have known about this problem on th SE for a long period of time. and are still selling the phone with the dictation software issues on it. if you spend hours and hours with them on the phone they will finally admit to you it’s a software problem on the SE they know about. and will at 1st fob you off saying they are trying to fix it by next update. anyone with this phone know that a lie as there have been several software updates and they have not fixed it. if you want a refund because you have health condition and disability that you explain. they just refuse saying software is not covered by warranty. so you have to deal with the problem like everyone eles. is a disgrace from apple. sell phone with a know to them software issues and then refusing refund or replacement of phone with out the software issues as they know they can get away with it . and it’s the low range phone so just don’t care

why don’t you just stay out of this you clearly don’t have this phone or this software issues. so why you keep insisting on commenting on something you know nothing about non of us know. but unless you have this phone with this issue pleas please stay out of it.

or you are being payed by apple to try and make fuss and try to make it look like there is not an issue.

people who attualy have the phone know it it an software issue apple know about but refusing to deal with it.

just stop interfering in something you clearly know nothing about.

well stop telling us we don’t have a problem. on a phone you don’t have stay out of it. may of us have complained many time and filed report ect apple are fully aware of the problem but won’t do anything about it. As people with the phone know.

So you do not have the phone so why don’t you just stay out of something that is no concern to you. and stop infuriating people who have the phone and software problem

you basically calling us lies and denieing there is an issue on a phone you don’t even have so have no idea what is happening to phones we have. As many have said to you stay out of a problem that does not concern you.
