Alarm volume TOO LOUD in iOS14

I installed iOS 14 on my iPhone 7 Plus, and now the alarm BLARES!! The phone's volume setting is low to moderate; the Sounds/Haptics is set to low/moderate. The alarm volume overrides those settings. In Alarms there is no way to set a volume.

When the alarm goes off, using the 'volume down' button snoozes the alarm instead of adjusting the volume.

Help!

Thanks, Idris. I am using the alarm function in the clock, and it happens regardless of the sound or song chosen for the alarm. The problem stopped for two days and the volume was normal, but then it went back to blaring even though I had not changed any settings on the phone prior to the volume dropping or raising again.

Hi,

I totally agree with your (Kerpie's) post and especially the final comment:

"If they must keep adding unnecessary features then for pity sake add features, but leave the simple method intact for those who need it!"

Why can't Apple just leave the software as it was... if it ain't broke, don't fix it !!!

Overnight, without intending to allow it, my iPhone 6S has upgraded to ios14.3... now today as noted elsewhere, all alarms are at BLARING level Volume, (totally irrespective of the low setting for call ringer volume).

If they must introduce this feature, why can't each selected alarm sound have its own volume level set to an individual setting?

Apple, why do you continue to make your products difficult to live with??!!! It should be the opposite!

Having gone through the auto update **** with IOS 14.2 resetting alarms to their loudest level, when I saw IOS 14.3 was being automatically updated last night, I turned off auto-update. As a result i was not woken up by a blaring alarm this morning, however, I am still on IOS 14.2 and will have to manually update.

Why should I have to turn off auto-updates to compensate for unnecessary "improvements" by Apple?

Apple need to isolate the Clock Alarm feature from being affected by other settings outside of that App. I have raised it as an issue with them but haven't seen a fix as yet.

(FYI - to others that may be experiencing the loud alarm problem in IOS 14 - go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Attention-Aware Features and turn off Attention-Aware Features. REMEMBER - IOS updates will re-set this so need to turn off auto updates if don't want to be woken by a blaring alarm again once set to an acceptable level.

Also if you want to set the alarm volume with the Volume buttons on the side of the phone, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringer and Alerts > Change with Buttons and turn on Change with Buttons - BUT BE AWARE this will likely also affect the ringer volume on your phone for receiving calls).

I agree. This response is ridiculous and clearly it is a common issue. This is my 6th thread trying to get answers all with hundreds of people saying they’re experiencing the same issue. Nothing has solved the problem yet. Frikin gives me a heart attack at 430am so I finally just started to leave it on vibrate underneath my pillow. And yes Kerpie I know how to navigate, this is not rocket science 🙄. Why are you even in this thread if it doesn’t apply to you? I’ve owned every single iphone ever made and never had an issue with a stupid alarm. Started happening for me after the last update. All my volumes are set to the lowest settings, yet the alarm is blaring! This is ridiculous

For people who don’t want to have to go into the Health app to use the sleep function, I was VERY happy to see that, at least after I set my sleep schedule the first time after updating to iOS 14, it appeared at the top of the regular alarm list, AND it can be adjusted there so you don’t have to go into the health app ever again if you don’t want to! I don’t want to use the Health app features (!), I just need to be able to:

-set different alarms for different days

-use Early Riser alarm sound

-adjust the alarm volume without changing the phone ring volume

All of these are possible in the bedtime alarm feature, but only one (setting the alarm for specific days) can be achieved with the regular alarms.

After updating to iOS 14 I was completely infuriated by the volume issue (and my husband was like, what the **** are you doing?!, when I was trying to find an alarm sound because I didn’t know this): you still have control over the alarm settings by using the bedtime/sleep monitoring feature which has been moved from the regular clock app to the health app, AND, for people like me who don’t want to have to go into the Health app to use this feature, I was VERY happy to see that, at least after I set my sleep schedule the first time after updating to iOS 14, my bedtime alarm appeared at the top of the regular alarm list, AND it can be adjusted there so you don’t have to go into the Health app ever again if you don’t want to! hallelujah! I don’t want to use the Health app features (!), I just need to be able to:

-set different alarms for different days

-use the Early Riser alarm sound

-adjust the alarm volume without changing the phone ring volume

All of these are possible in the bedtime alarm feature, but only one (setting the alarm for specific days) can be achieved with the regular alarms.

Why Apple made this change, and why they made the regular alarm interface tiny and boxed in it’s beyond me, but at least there’s a simple workaround.

Yeah, it's taking you to a section of Health. It's just bypassing the first couple of screens.

Exactly! Why can’t the alarms have their own volume? That’s what Android can do and that’s what I need. There is no fix for this so all the people providing solutions that aren’t actually solutions just stop ffs. I need a few alarms a day and different days of the week at different volumes and I don’t want to have to edit them all the time. I could do this on a normal phone, an Android phone and even a Windows phone... but not an iPhone sadly 😢

Feb 25, 2021 7:07 AM in response to rvhextall

@rvhextall, you are exactly right! Thanks for your post, you've inspired me to enhance my own solution (posted Jan25, above).

-I sometimes would forget to increase my phone volume after rising, and I would miss hearing some calls until it hit me to turn it back up.

So, using the Shortcuts app again, I created a series of 14 individual Automations to turn down the volume during my sleeping hours for each day, and turn the volume back up at a time after I'm out of bed, for each day. (The app lets you schedule which day(s) of the week to execute a given Automation entry.)

It is kind of a Rube Goldberg approach, but it gets the job done.

Mar 9, 2021 7:15 AM in response to gabsalot162

gabsalot162, I’m not sure who’s post you are referring to, but you can control the wake up alarm volume separate from the phone ringer, etc. volume by setting your wake up alarm through the Bedtime function. Apple hid it in the health app for iOS 14 but once you set an alarm there it shows up in your regular alarm list, at the top. And you don’t have to go into the health app again. hope that helps, it helped a lot me!

Mar 10, 2021 8:37 AM in response to luisma1161

luisma1161, I see, yes, that's more complicated. Of course I agree that every set of alarm settings should allow volume control. I was relieved that I at least found a way to control the wakeup separate from the regular alarms. I have submitted comments about this to Apple and I hope everyone here does too - it's a quality of life issue now that they've made us dependent on their devices!

Mar 19, 2021 7:12 AM in response to AppleUser___2020

I’ve been having the same issue except I’ve delete the pre-set alarm by apple and I am resetting the volume every night so that it’s wayyyy down and yet it keeps resetting and BLASTING at full volume every morning! I have a branding new 12 latest iOS and I don’t know what to do at this point expect stop setting an alarm and hope I wake up at a decent time for work 🤷‍♀️. Looking through these answers for any advice, this is a TERRIBLE user experience.

Mar 23, 2021 7:54 AM in response to AppleUser___2020

After about a week of my alarm blaring every morning I finally decided to try to dive deeper into resolving the issue.

Steps to turn down Alarm sound:

1) tap on clock app

2) next to alarm time click “change”

3) scroll to “sounds & haptics”

4) lower volume using dial

5) press “done”

I hope this helps you not have a heart attack every morning!

May 23, 2021 8:39 PM in response to AppleUser___2020

After trying different options, I deleted the sleep settings in “health” app.

When you set your sleep goals from scratch and add a new alarm schedule, you can set the volume level for it.

if you change the volume afterwards on the clock app, it will change only for the next day or the next time the alarm starts.

Hope it helps!
