Alarm volume TOO LOUD in iOS14

I installed iOS 14 on my iPhone 7 Plus, and now the alarm BLARES!! The phone's volume setting is low to moderate; the Sounds/Haptics is set to low/moderate. The alarm volume overrides those settings. In Alarms there is no way to set a volume.

When the alarm goes off, using the 'volume down' button snoozes the alarm instead of adjusting the volume.

Are you using the regular alarm? Or are you using the new Sleep function? If you're using the Sleep feature, open the Health app, go to Sleep>Your Schedule. Tap on your schedule(s) then tap "Edit". You'll be able to adjust the alarm volume there.

If you're using the regular Alarm, it does not have a separate volume control. I'd suggest you try a different alarm sound.

I CAN DUPE THIS!

I've seen this issue since iOS14, and have today finally managed to reproduce it at will.

For *me* it's specific to my EPOS (pka Sennheiser) ADAPT 560 and ADAPT 660 Bluetooth headsets. It doesn't happen on my Poly UC8200.

All I need to do is receive a call on the phone when the headset is paired/active - or not even answer it - and after the call my Sounds & Haptics / Ringer and Alerts volume has jumped from next to zero to anywhere from 50% to 100%, ready to startle me the next time an alarm goes off.

Making a call doesn't do it. It seems to be tied to the incoming ringing volume.

I've separately engaged EPOS support with the details of the dupe.

My environment is an iPhone 8 running iOS 14.2. I'm also permanently paired with an old Apple watch and the phone is permanently in mute (or whatever the term is for when the side switch is activated).

My partner has just upgraded his iPhone [8] SE to 14.2 and with the same headset it doesn't manifest the issue.

I've previously reset all my settings at the behest of Apple support and that didn't do anything (other than give me a lot of settings to have to restore). The phone has NOT been reset to factory.

"If you don't want maximum volume, don't set it to that."

Where do you set the volume? There is no such option, at least not specifically for the alarm. As other users have pointed out, it's not very practical having to lower the volume of the ringer and alerts only because of the alarm issue. Do I now have to remember to lower the volume every night before I go to bed? There is hardly an advantage anymore over an old-fashioned alarm clock.

This didn't use to be an issue before iOS 14. People are reporting they found a solution by switching on "change with buttons" but that only makes it worse. Every time I listen to music, I then have to remember to lower the volume afterwards. This is all so super annoying; why can't there just be a volume setting for the alarm?? (and why wasn't this an issue before?)

Yes! I’m glad it’s not just me thinking this has happened, some mornings when I have to get up mega early I used to set my alarm much quieter so as not to wake our baby, but now it wakes our baby, and pretty much everyone on the street, it was a perfectly good alarm app before, I can’t understand the need for the change? I just want to be able to set the alarm to go off quieter, without having to download yet another app to get a function that should be already on the phone..

Volume used to be independent of the main sounds and hepatic, that does not seem to be the case anymore. Extremely frustrating and hopefully just a temporary bug.

The alarm volume has never been independent of the main volume. People have complained about that for years.

Agree with OP.

the lowest volume setting is louder than prior to iOS 14.3.

scared the bejeezus out of me this AM.

I upgraded from 6s to 12 Mini

transferred settings and content

I noticed the default was too loud last night when I used the timer.

changed default under Settings/Sound & Haptics/Ringer and Alerts to lowest setting

set an alarm and made sure volume was at lowest setting

The lowest volume setting is *much* louder than it used to be prior to iOS 14.3.

I’ve gone ahead submitted feedback to Apple.

boy, I sure hope they address this soon.
