Since the last update, my texts are showing a read time. I have never had that turned on and the setting did not change. I attempted all of the advice that I could find from previous updates, i.g. reboot, toggle settings on/off. Nothing of correcting the issue.

mine’s are also off but i sent a message to myself and i still see it as “read” when i sent something. Its supposed to show as “delivered”. I want it off, i’ve had this issue since the 14.0.1 update.
Because you aren’t speaking with Apple here. You’re speaking with other users like you. If you want to speak directly to Apple click the Contact Support link and call or chat with them directly.
I was hoping with this latest update for IOS 14 this issue would be fixed but it isn’t. This is really annoying and frustrating!
This is happening to me too. I never put read receipts on. I double checked and it’s still off. My phone did update and I guess it has started since then. How do I get the read receipts off?!
Please Please fix this READ issue! Only way is to turn off iMessage. I do not have Read receipts toggled. Help!
I had this same problem, and after toggling the read receipts setting on and back off it fixed it for me.
Hope this helps because privacy bugs like this really suck.

If you expect Apple to respond in these communities you are mistaken. These communities are for user to user support. If you want Apple to respond, call, chat or tweet them.
I have 14.2.1. That is not the same case. Still Apple has not fixed this. Frustrating.
I don’t use the favorites option in my phone.
Have we figured out an update on this? I’m having this same issue , my read receipts are turned off globally and turned off for each individual I am messaging
My setting is also turned off but still sending, message read.
