Since the last update, my texts are showing a read time. I have never had that turned on and the setting did not change. I attempted all of the advice that I could find from previous updates, i.g. reboot, toggle settings on/off. Nothing of correcting the issue.

mine’s are also off but i sent a message to myself and i still see it as “read” when i sent something. Its supposed to show as “delivered”. I want it off, i’ve had this issue since the 14.0.1 update.
I just recently got the iPhone 12 Pro because my iPhone X was having some issues. Ever since I got this phone it’s been nonstop problems. Half the time I have no cellular data regardless of whether I use LTE or 5G auto. I have to put my phone on airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off again to get my cellular service back when I never had that issue before. Now I just learned my read receipts are on even though every option for “read receipts on” is turned off. I have always been a huge iPhone fan and never wanted another phone but this issue is making me seriously consider switching from Apple to Samsung because of all these new issues. If anyone finds a solution for the read receipts please let me know because it’s frustrating and I’m hoping I don’t have to switch to Samsung.
There's also a read receipts option for each contact person. In Messages, go to info and you will see it there
That is what I have already done, doors not stop the read receipt. I have been with Apple since the beginning, I know how to work the basic settings. This has to be a bug.

If you have updated to iOS 14.1 and the issue persists, you may need to contact Apple Support for additional assistance.

I’m having the same issue with the read receipt since the update and have done everything to try and fix it but nothing works. Will this be fixed soon? It’s really frustrating.
Disgusting lack of respect for people‘s privacy. I will not be updating to iOS 14.

My MacBook is too old to update past ElCapitain. Haha haven’t needed to replace it with my iPhone/iPad doing everything
Have you turned off send read receipts? This setting can be turned on/off in Settings> Messages> Send Read Receipts
It was never turned on.
Why do we continue to be asked simple beginner questions when we have all stated that we have been using iPhones for many generations?
