Message read receipt iOS 14.0.1

I was having this issue too. I did a bit of digging and figured out it was only sending read receipts to people in my Favorites. I checked their info in Messages and they all had Send Read Receipt on. I changed it and so far so good.

I had this issue when updating to 14.0.1 and again when updating to 14.2. After trying several things I finally solved the issue by turning Imessage off, restarting the phone, then turning it back on - keeping the "send read receipts" button off the whole time. Hope this helps some of you folks!

In my case and in the case of most readers that’s a good thing a nice wish that you did not have one.

But in reality it won’t stop the folks like you that are smart enough to find a computer but not smart enough to use it effectively.

I just recently got the iPhone 12 Pro because my iPhone X was having some issues. Ever since I got this phone it’s been nonstop problems. Half the time I have no cellular data regardless of whether I use LTE or 5G auto. I have to put my phone on airplane mode and then turn airplane mode off again to get my cellular service back when I never had that issue before. Now I just learned my read receipts are on even though every option for “read receipts on” is turned off. I have always been a huge iPhone fan and never wanted another phone but this issue is making me seriously consider switching from Apple to Samsung because of all these new issues. If anyone finds a solution for the read receipts please let me know because it’s frustrating and I’m hoping I don’t have to switch to Samsung.

mine’s are also off but i sent a message to myself and i still see it as “read” when i sent something. Its supposed to show as “delivered”. I want it off, i’ve had this issue since the 14.0.1 update.

I have 14.2.1. That is not the same case. Still Apple has not fixed this. Frustrating.

I don’t use the favorites option in my phone.

Have we figured out an update on this? I’m having this same issue , my read receipts are turned off globally and turned off for each individual I am messaging

My setting is also turned off but still sending, message read.

Unfortunately that didn’t work for me. But thanks for trying.

Same thing happening to me as well...and almost a full after the first bugs were reported. It only started doing this after I upgraded to 14.1. Now read receipts are on, even when I’ve turned them off (and yes, I know how to turn them off.)

While the bug is being worked out there is one way to get around this, which is to change your messaging settings and turn off iMessage. Your iPhone will send all your texts as regular messages, so no read receipts will be visible to anyone.

I checked with a friend of mine and asked her if she could see my read receipts and she said that she didn’t. However when I send a text to myself I can see the read receipt.

Very odd, I’m sure Apple will fix this bug soon.

Message sent delivered and shows “Read” regardless if toggle button is in enable or disable. I had a lot of explaining to do when I checked a message but did not respond right away. This is not cool at all and to find out from a text message can get other people in trouble. This needs to be fixed yesterday!! Is there a solution NOW?

We understand from your post that since the last update read receipts on your texts are showing up. To turn off "Send Read Receipts", tap Settings > Messages > Send Read Receipts > Off. If you are referring to the time shown when you hold your finger to a message and slide it to the left, that time is the time the message was sent or received and does not reflect the time you actually read the message.
