I have been using strava for workouts since many friends are using more than apple activity. I noticed that for the last few months the exercise ring gets updated but is not recognized as a workouts

We understand from your post that workouts from 3rd party apps are not registering as workouts in the Activity app. You may need to check and make sure that your app is syncing with the Health app so your workouts then sync to the Activity app.

Try going into the Health App on your phone, select your appleID icon in top right, select Apps under Privacy, find the Strava app and make sure all categories are turned on.
Today my Apple Watch didn’t have enough battery so decided to go for a walk using the strava app. I recorded 1:06 minutes walk for 4.67 miles and realized none of my rings updated from exercise, even when I was moving with my phone on my pocket
thank you. I just checked and all categories are on, still workouts are not recorded but exercise ring gets updated.

If you have updated your iPhone to iOS 14.1 and your Apple Watch to watchOS 7.0.3 and the issue persists, you may want to contact Apple Support for additional assistance.
