Unable to make any changes to contacts on my Mac

I seem to be unable to make any changes to contacts on my Mac. These have all been populated from iCloud when I set up my new iMac. I cannot delete members from groups on my iMac, but if I got into the web and got to iCloud there, I can make the changes in Contacts on the Web and they immediately show up on my iMac.

What on earth is going on?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup).

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

I think we might figure it out if you can submit an etrecheck report...

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

https://www.etrecheck.com/

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

https://pastebin.com/

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

<script src="https://pastebin.com/embed_js/KuvnghqA"></script>

The important part is...

https://pastebin.com/embed_js/KuvnghqA

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

Well, in safe mode it worked. But when rebooting back to the normal mode, once agin I can't delete members from a group. Another strange thing, which I didn't check in safe mode, is that if I try to log in to iCloud.com on the web, my password is rejected if I try to log in from the drop down box, but if I cancel from that and log in on the panel that appears in the middle of the screen with the same credentials, it does work.

This is an almost brand new 5k Retina iMac (2020). I didn't do a migration from my old iMac as I wanted to clean things out and so mostly brought across just my Documents and some Library folders where applications need settings that I wouldn't want to reconfigure. I might have imagined that I would have had a problem with a third party application, but not with iCloud.

Any more ideas?

The way you moved over your data may have messed things up. If it works in Safe Mode but not normally that sounds like something may not have loaded. My suggestion would be to restart in Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) then re-install Mac OS. This will not wipe out data but will fill in parts of Mac OS that were omitted when you "migrated". That being said, you should ALWAYS have a backup of your system prior to doing this, so please make sure Time Machine is up, running and of working!

OK. Just run it now. Just to clarify this is a new iMac 5k running Catalina 10.15.7. (my signature dates back to my previous iMac which is still here waiting to be recycled).

Here is the output from a basic run of EtreCheck. (I remember using this years ago!)

I notice that it refers to some 32-bit applications which rather surprises me because I don't think I re-installed anything that could be 32-bit.

That seems to have worked. I removed CleanMyMac (actually using itself) and after a safe boot it was gone. The new output of EtreCheck is here: https://pastebin.com/embed_js/sDY5sbz6

Contacts seems to be working properly now.

I still have the odd thing that logging in to iCloud on the web, or this forum requires me to ignore the drop down panel (which doesn't work) and use the login dialog.

Thank you for your help.
