Just got a new Apple Watch 6 and now text messages don’t make a noise on my iPhone. How do I get them on both devices?

It's not possible, notifications go to either your Apple Watch or iPhone, but not both. :)
Has been that way since WatchOS 1, so I doubt it. I didn't like it in the beginning but now I'm actually used to it ^^
I've been trying to find an answer to this as there are times throughout the day that I don't feel the vibration on my wrist depending on what I'm doing and don't know that a text came through unless I constantly keep checking my phone. I hope there is a solution or at least one in the works.
