Clip Glitch

I have a clip that is cannibalizing other content for lack of a better word. No matter which clips I insert into the timeline or where, it is only showing footage from that one single clip. I have tried deleting the clips and events, re-importing and starting again, restarting iMovie, and restarting my computer. Thinking of clearing the iMovie cache, but don't want to lose any work, as I have a lot of working files and time invested.

Hi,

It might be a corrupt preference causing that. Try deleting preferences. To do that, open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. It is a harmless procedure and you will not lose any work. After deleting preferences, see if iMovie is functioning properly.

If deleting preferences doesn't solve it, try creating a new project and transferring your media into it. See if that cures it.

That is puzzling.

Here are some more things that you can try:

Updating/Re-downloading iMovie

To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of

the app store side bar. (NOTE: For El Capitan and older, click on the Purchases tab at the top of the app store screen and then sign in. Click on Purchases again to reveal your purchases.)  You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder.

Resetting the System Management Controller

Try resetting the System Management Controller. It just a matter of rebooting while holding down certain keys.

Resetting the NVRAM or PRAM

Try resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, although this issue would be fairly rare:

That was a great suggestion. I tried both items, but unfortunately they didn't work for me. I also tried creating a new project and only copying over the clips that weren't glitched. Any new clips I drag into the timeline are still only showing the glitched clip. It is even grabbing audio from that clip even though the event and source clip are deleted from iMovie and my computer (scratching my head even more).
