IOS14 severe battery drain on SE

Since updating to ios14, my battery on the SE is just terrible and drops considerably. I have spoken to Apple support who did a diagnotics check and booked me in to an apple store for further investigate. The apple store states that nothing wrong with battery and they performed a systsem reset. Unfortunately no difference with battery performance. Phone was fine before the upgrade with a once a day charge. Anyone else had similar and is apple going to fix this with a further update. The phone is no good to me with constant charging.

My first gen SE battery began dropping like a stone after the 14.3 iOS update. I am an older user and I do not use many apps at all. I would go out with the phone at 100% and two hours later it would be down in the weeds (< 20%). After a complete backup/reset/restore I managed to get it somewhat back under control, and I turned off automatic sw updates. Then I forgot about the iOS issue (I'm getting older - give me a break); got annoyed at always seeing the red "1" on my Settings icon; and "accidentally" updated to 14.4 last week. Then I found and read through this forum. I live too far from an Apple store, so I made an appointment at my local Best Buy through the Apple support website. Showed up at Best Buy yesterday. "Oh, we don't support that older model anymore. Apple doesn't even give us the tools/training to work on it anymore. We've tried notifying Apple several times because people with older phones keep coming in with Apple appointments. It's how they get you to buy a new phone." Best Buy referred me to a local cell phone repair shop. They replaced the battery for $70 at Noon PST 3/6/21. Phone changed from 83% battery health to 100%; showed it had a 71% charge; and hasn't budged from that since then. It feels like a brand new phone, and I'm a happy camper.

As far as I can tell, the in-phone diagnostics about battery health are thoroughly unreliable. The diagnostics on my iPhone said the battery still had 91% capacity, but the phone acted like the battery had maybe 10-20% capacity. I finally took it to an Apple store, and the tech noticed some screen anomalies/discoloration. He theorized the battery had failed almost completely, and was starting to swell. That made sense to me.

But it appalled me, since the phone is only 2.5 years old. And since iTunes had meanwhile screwed up my back-ups, I concluded that at least in my experience, Apple itself was completely unreliable. So I threw away the iPhone, and got a phone that has a replaceable battery. Sigh, I was once such a fan of Apple, but now I think they suck.

I had the same problem. The battery only last hours even I’m sleeping at night I left the phone 100 percent before sleeping, but when I woke up the phone was off. I tried to reset the phone twice but nothing happened. Even though I use low power mode it still drains so fast.

Btw My battery Health is 100% says on the settings

Apple cannot ‘admit’ to something that is not true.

As you say some people may have a problem.

If you personally have a problem start a NEW discussion showing your battery usage for the last 24 hours and 10 days and health%

and we can help you.

You can only represent your own issues here, or provide useful feedback, if you check the forum terms of use.

“...iPhone SE batteries are a weak point, and often need replacing after only two years of use...”

Iphone batteries are designed to last at least 500 full charge cycles before needing replacement. That is 70 weeks if you use the full charge every day like I do. Most last a little longer but 2 years is average for all iphones.

I have similar problems. It started with having to charge my SE more often but 2 weeks ago I wasn't even able to charge it any more. I sent it to apple to have the battery exchanged. They sent it back and said they had run a diagnosis, nothing was found and it should work now. But it didn't. I tried different chargers, tried to load via Macbook or with a powerful powerbank - nothing helped. So I drove to the closest Apple Store because now the phone didn't even show the battery symbol on the black screen when I plugged it in. They said they loaded it for a while with "a more powerful" charger and it should work, now. But it still doesn't load with the chargers I usually used.. I think it started with iOS 14 but as no problem was found in the store, what could I do? Has anyone a similar experience? Any idea if the problems might be caused by iOS 14?

By the way - sorry for language mistakes - I couldn't find any helpful posts in my own country's Apple Community...

Best not to confuse the actual capacity in milliamp hours with the estimation of that value by the firmware.

It may be true that it is an estimate based on voltage and some instantaneous instantaneous current measurement, though I was not aware of that. That would be a power measurement anyway, battery capacity requires multiplication by time.

Charge capactity = v*i*t

Even so, failing parts of the battery will give lower voltage for any given charge level and if you multiply one good number by a wrong number you still get a wrong answer. How else do you explain sudden stepwise drops.

I did have that problem on my wife's 6S when I handed it over. I recalibrated the gauge by running flat and left for one hour (no more), charged to 100% and left on charge for 1 extra hour. Immediately force restart the phone at the end. That recalibrated it. The remedy is no longer recommended however so I should not recommend it.

It will cost you $49 to find out if it's the battery, or carry on enjoying the performance.

My wife has an SE 1'st generation 2016 which had 92% life in October 2020. Updated in October to 14 os. The battery used to last 3 or 4/5 days. Now only 88% life and has to be charged 2 or 3 times a day. Being in contact since october 2020 and been fobbed off with rubbish snake oil salesman or women. I have taken it to an Apple store in Watford on Monday of this week for a battery replacement. They said they done a diagnostic test and did not find a problem with the phone and would not replace the Battery. The man that dealt with me was very rude and tried to embarrass me in front of customers in the line outside the shop. You cannot go into the shop as of covid. They don't mind putting you at risk of covid 19 as I am 75 and my was in isolation for one year. I have written to them twice for a resolution by recorded delivery in the last month and they have not replied. Does anybody know who the independent referee or adjudicator is?. Hope somebody can help please
