What setting should be changed to stop the crackling through Apple TV 4K?
Unplugged smart tv, restarted. Crackling no more! :-D

Have you verified possible causes outside of the Apple TV settings?
There are no setting known to cause crackling audio. It is usually the connection (wiring).
Does this happen with a specific app, or any app?
Does this happen with AirPlay?
