The watch just updated to 7.0.2 and is now not displaying incoming calls but it is able to make calls? I reset the watch and it is still not working....

I have an open case with Apple Enterprise support on this issue for the last few weeks. They have pulled diagnostic logs from my phone and watch multiple times. They seem eager and willing to find the issue. In my experience in troubleshooting this I feel it is vehicle specific. I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade with wired CarPlay that has the problem. My older Nissan with an aftermarket CarPlay receiver has no issues. For me, the issue occurs only when I cut the car off and open the door so the infotainment system then shuts off "before" I pull the lighting cable, about 90% of the way I do it. If I pull the cable from my phone before CarPlay shuts off I NEVER have the issue. I have tested and tested this so many times I've lost count. I think it has something to do with the way the vehicle is sending a disconnect or maybe not sending the disconnect command to the phone so perhaps the phone still think it's connected to CarPlay in some way. Rebooting the phone resets this. This would explain why it doesn't happen to everyone. For the wireless CarPlay users if you turn off WIFI before you shutoff your vehicle do you still have the issue? I think there have been several posts that this was proven true. For you wired folks like me, if you unplug the lightning cable before your CarPlay turns off does your watch ring normally every time? I am sending more diags to Apple once I get home today as requested by Apple Engineers. I am very hopeful we are getting to a resolution with this.
Thanks, will give that a try, but hopefully Apple figures this out soon... super frustrating!
Did you ever get this resolved? I had the same issues with my series 5. So finally bought the 6 and it is doing the same thing! I would love to know if you ever found a solution.
I see this post is almost a year old and certainly rebooting fixed the issue but I can't help wondering if this will re-occur as I often use carplay. Has there been a permanent fix to this issue?
Don't know why as I'm on automatic update but I was on 14.2 so now updating to 14.6 so will see if it works ok
Thanks for head up
Interesting... Somehow the Watch notifications were off on the phone?! Turned on, restarted phone and watch, called phone and watch properly displayed the incoming call notification! However, called again and the watch does not display the notification... Have made repeated attempts without success. I will have to contact support. Thank you for the assistance!
I got mac book pro 13, catalina 10.15.7 - the watch receives request for passcode when signing to apple id, but when I try to set up open mac with iwatch, after while the comp says unable to connect to watch.
Change your phone setting in the watch app to custom from Mirror iPhone
iPhone>Watch>Phone>Custom>Make sure it is checked
Allow notification>Make sure it is checked
Sounds>Toggle on
Haptic>Toggle on
Worked for me
Hi, I am in exactly the same stuation with you, i have wireless carplay and my watch 5 is not ringing for calls and restarting the phone fixes it until an unknown time ( until your post) I will check it if the Carplay is causing the issue which make sense for the randomless. I will post the result when done. Please let me know if you find a solution, reparing the watch not fixes it, and it is driving me crazy and also I dont want to restart my phone every time I get out of the car!!!
Thank you so much for suggesting this, I was going nuts! It's crazy that I tried to reboot, unpair and reset my Apple Watch and then... rebooting the iPhone simply solved the issue! 😆 BTW I'm a wireless CarPlay user too. Could it be that there's a bug with the handling of CoreBluetooth in watchOS 7.1?
Thanks for the insights! It has been driving me nuts and I have missed a couple of calls due to this bug. I use wireless carplay as well but I did not think that it was the root cause of the issue.
Rebooting the phone resolves the issue, but it's hassle to do it each time I get out of the car.
Hopefully this gets resolved in iOS 14.3. Does anyone know if this has been fixed in the beta?
The consensus on this thread has been rebooting your phone after disconnecting from wireless CarPlay fixes the issue until the next time you connect to CarPlay. Reboot your phone every time you finish using CarPlay & have disconnected from CarPlay.
I did a little more testing. When turning off WiFi when in CarPlay and turning off the car, my watch will get missed call notifications only when on my home WiFi. So, basically when I’m on just cellular service without my phone nearby, regular calls using my cell number (not Apple ID) won’t ring in or notify me that there’s a call. The solution is closer but still doesn’t let me use my watch without carrying my phone everywhere
Anyone have a watch where you never get calls through the watch when on cell service and the phone is not connected? Mine never can get calls on cell even when rebooting and trying all of the methods posted. My CarPlay is on a BMW and I hear those are having the most problems
Wireless Kenwood carplay here too. Also noticed no notifications on watch when connected. Including snapchat..
I submitted the feedback as suggested. Thank you.
