Will magnetic mounts affect Magsafe on new iPhones

i figured out a solution kinda- the built-in magnet in the iphone 12 pro is not strong enough for the car mounts. you need to use the thin magnet in between the phone and the case. but it interferes with wireless charging if the magnet is directly over center. so I placed the thin magnet towards the bottom instead of the middle and everything seems to be fine (didn't stick it, just put it in between the phone and case and it stays.. but either way). it also works a bit above center to the side of the camera lenses you just gotta play around with it. peace

I just messaged with apple and you can not add an additional magnet it will interfere with the magsafe function. 😓

They also said they do not yet have any phone holders that are approved although Belkin has one that will work but they can not guarantee it will not interfere with the magsafe charging

With the adhesive magnetic sticker on, it will prevent the wireless charging.

Apple found a way to even make magnets proprietary.

Frustrating as several mounts on vehicles (and other family phones) use these magnetic mounts.

I have a magnetic sticker attached to the inside of my MagSafe case. When I try to use the wireless charger with the MafSafe case it does not work - it only works if I take the case off. I would say that magnetic car mounts will not allow the MagSafe charger to work.

I have an iPhone 12pro. It won’t stay on my magnetic car mount at all. The MagSafe magnetic ring area is quite large in comparison to the smaller magnetic circle of the car mount. I have to put a metal plate between the phone and case to stay connected to the car mount just like before. Maybe it would work if the size of the car mount magnet was large enough...

Here’s my experience, I’m using Joyroom car magnetic mount, and it works without the magnetic piece, meaning the MagSafe ring attaches to the device without adding another magnet.

Adding another magnet, will not allow you to charge your device through a MagSafe charger.

Unless you have a laboratory horse shoe magnet, I don’t think it will damage any parts on your phone. The car mount magnets are so minimal, it won’t do anything. However, depending on magnet placement you won’t be able to charge your phone unless it is through a cable.

I tried various positions between the case and the phone and found if you placed the magnetic metal sticker on the top right corner facing the back of the phone next to the camera lenses worked the best with the car mount and didn't affect the mag safe charging.

It seems that if you want to mount an iPhone 12 magnetically to a car mount and be able to charge wirelessly you can:

1. Put the metal piece low on the phone or case so it doesn’t block the “ring” in the middle of the phone that hooks up for MagSafe & other wireless charging. OR

2. Buy a MagSafe charger and stick the metal piece to the back of that. It sounds like the phone will hold via MagSafe magnets and your phone will charge via the MagSafe if you plug it in.

I have several of the adhesive magnetic patches on my families iPhones.

With receipt of the iPhone 12, I was under the assumption the 12 would automatically work with the magnetic mounts with root the need for the metal adhesive patches.

I have an aftermarket case for the 12 (thin), and with it on or off, the magnetic attraction is weak.

The phone will easily fall off my current magnetic stands with normal driving.

This is unfortunate.

I got the iPhone 12 and can confirm that the magsafe ring will "to some extent" stick to your phone holder's magnet, but not what you think. It won't hold still due to the phone's weight. I am buying a magnet piece to use it with the holder and will see the results. I am using scosche magnet holder.

One option I saw done was attaching the MagSafe Charger to the car phone mount. Then attaching the phone to the Charger using MagSafe. The Rennline magnetic phone mounts apparently will allow the charger disc to attach firmly. Will be trying that out myself this Friday with the Max.

rsohail, the sticker that comes with magnetic mounts is usually just a piece of metal and isn't actually magnetic on it's own. It would probably work if you removed the sticker from the case and then used the MagSafe charger as your mount.

I placed the metal plate inside the case. I've put a piece of paper between the plate and the phone so that the back glass doesn't get scratched. My circular plate is in the dead center of the phone. I've been using this setup with a magnetic mount in my car for 2 months now and I've not faced any issues.
