Will magnetic mounts affect Magsafe on new iPhones

I’ve had it for 2 days now. Here’s my take, the magnet does work to some extent. However, the phone is heavy and could potentially move and fall (hasn’t happened). To be safe, I am adding an additional magnet for more security. To answer the question; yes the phone 12 pro magnet itself works for a magnetic phone car mount. With the magnet the phone charges just fine.

You can order the Belkin Car Vent Mount PRO with MagSafe from the Apple store. It’s pricy and arrives around mid December since it’s kind of like a pre-order. Says it safely mounts the IPhone and you can turn it to portrait or landscape. Only thing is that the vent version is the only one they have and don’t have one that sticks to dashboard.

It does not unfortunately. I just tried to stick it to my magnetic phone mount without the magnet sticker and it seems to hold a slight amount of attraction, but not enough to keep it in place.

It works! Solid attraction on both parts, and the “Big Max” does not move. If you have a magnetic mount now this seems like a good solution.

Well, I now have the iPhone 12 Pro MagSafe case, and I can report that it doesn’t stick to my Spigen magnetic car mount. :(

There’s a tiny bit of attraction, but not even enough to hold the case up, let alone a phone.

Just got my IPhone 12 and can 100% say that the phone itself will not hold up on a magnetic car mount without the magnetic sticker. I’m assuming this is the same with the MagSafe case. Not sure if magnetic sticker will damage the phone with all this new MagSafe stuff though.

The MagSafe charger attached directly to my magnetic car mount, without having to stick a steel plate to the backside of the MagSafe. I've driven maybe 5 times and the MagSafe has charged just fine, and no issues have shown up so far with having all the magnets in play. I do however take the MagSafe off the mount when I leave and just set it in my cupholder. I don't know if there will be any damage done if I leave it on a magnet for too long, and don't want to test that myself.

Ethammond, it is my opinion that the Magsafe products will only work with other Magsafe products. I bought an official Magsafe case from Apple and it will not attach to my Magic Mount.

Yes, I have a plate towards the bottom and use a car magnet for driving.

Use a "charging stand (s) for charging in home (along with apple cord on bottom at times)

Along similar lines, I'm wondering if the MagSafe 'ring' means we can use magnetic car mounts without needing the metal sticker on the phone any more. Ie, will the iPhone 12 Pro just stick to the magnet on it own?

I guess maybe the phone magnets will 'boost' the case magnets (or magnetic surface or whatever it is), but even so, it feels like the MagSafe ring is going to be perfectly aligned with whatever you're attaching it to to work.

I use a "metal" plate toward bottom of Iphone 12 plus pro, backside, to attach to car magnet.

I can charge the 12 with an existing Nanami "Fastcharge"

(On my Iphone 11 plus I had "two plates", one above the other, and "could not charge" with the Nanami, but turns out that was overkill for the car magnet. )

Have not tried a Magsafe
