How do you get your apple ID password to work in the app store?

I'm getting very frustrated with trying to download updates from the app store. It says that I'm logged in with my Apple ID, but my Apple ID password -- the same one I used to log into this forum -- doesn't work. I've tried changing it, but it still doesn't work for the app store. Why isn't the password for both the iPad and the app store the same? I see where you can disable the password requirement for free downloads from the app store on an iPhone, but this option isn't available on an iPad. The settings for app store say that face ID is enabled for all purchases, but it isn't -- I'm always immediately prompted for a password. How can I establish a consistent password and get the updates installed already?

Were the apps that need updating downloaded using a different Apple ID?  A request for another Apple ID password is often caused by updates to apps/purchases that were made when using the other ID. Those purchases are tied to the other ID and can't be transferred. One option is to delete the apps/purchases made by the other ID and download them using the new ID if desired. If necessary, check your purchases history to see which apps/purchases weren’t made by the current ID.
