how do I create a simple pdf document in Preview?

Im surprised how difficult it is to use preview to edit/modify/create a .pdf

I simply want to create a single page (to print). it would consist of of a couple 'screenshots' (that are .png files). I want to resize the screenshots so i can fit 2 of them on a standard sheet of paper. I want to add a couple lines of text above/below the images. should be simple? can someone step thru how to do this simple request. thx!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.13

Preview is not a page layout program. The editing tools in Preview are designed for annotating existing PDF documents, not creating new PDFs from scratch.

Any word processing or page layout app can do what said you want to do. Try Pages on your Mac, for example. If you don't already have it, you can download it from the Mac App Store - it's free.

Using Preview.app?

As its name suggests, Preview is geared towards viewing (with some editing/markup) files. It isn't geared towards full-page design. In fact, it doesn't even have an option to create new documents, only open existing ones.

You would be far better off using Pages.app (free from the App Store if its not already installed on your system)

In Pages, creating the layout should be as simple as dragging the screenshot from your desktop into the Pages document.. You get the standard handles for scaling/sizing, as well as options in the Inspector for rotating, blending, etc.

You can then add text boxes anywhere on the page for your text lines.

Once you have the page laid out, just use File -> Export -> PDF and you're set.
