Can't install macOS Catalina - Checking "(null)"...

Hello there,

I installed macOS Big Sur but in the end I wanted to go back to Catalina in order to have a more stable OS.

I erased everything and it installed macOS Mojave. I didn't have any TimeMachine backup.

Now, I'd like to upgrade to macOS Catalina.

However, it doesn't work and I have this error below:

What can I do?

MacBook Air

Yes!

I managed to reinstall macOS once again by using Cmd+Option+R.

It suggested to install Catalina and not Mojave, which is weird because the first time it was only Mojave available.

Now, everything is fine and I am able to update to Big Sur.

Thank you all for your help.

Hey michaelsfdn,

It looks like you're having an issue reinstalling macOS. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend reviewing the steps here and trying the installation again to see if that helps: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

If that doesn't help, we'd suggest checking for any issues in Disk Utility. This article explains how: How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility

Thanks!
