MacOS Big Sur Safari 14 Google Meet wired EarPods poor audio

Sound in Safari is cracky, Chrome is ok. Basically the same as others.

But the weird part is, that it looks like to be related to speaking person.

In Safari, sound is always cracking at the beginning while using google meet. When person A starts talking, it's cracking for a while, and then it suddenly stops and I can hear clearly the person A. But then when person A starts conversation with person B, I can clearly hear person A, but I can hear just cracking from person B.

I am having the same issue - and not just through AirPods - but just through my MacBook Pro 2020 16" model's speakers. It's all crackling and breaking up. Sounds terrible. However, works perfectly fine in Chrome. There must be a compatibility issue in the new OS/Safari

Same problem here. I originally thought this was a problem with the bitrate that the audio is broadcast as and I started messing about with the audio output settings in Audio MIDI Setup. This was a bit hit and miss and I've come to the conclusion that this doesn't have any effect.

This definitely seems to be a Safari bug since Chrome does not exhibit this problem.

I've experienced issues using the following audio output devices:

• Apple iPhone headset earphone connected directly to the headphone socket of my 2020 MacBook Pro
• Desktop speakers connected via optical out of my CalDigit TS3+ dock
• Desktop speakers connected via Bluetooth
• Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display

No issues at all when using Chrome for Google Meet or other web-based VoIP services. Lots of issues in Safari. No issues when using Zoom directly.

Same here, ever since updating to Big Sur (november 2020). Except that it's affecting not only Google Meets, but also Jitsi Meetings.

Both Mozilla or Chrome are working fine.

Big Sur 11.0.1, MacBook Pro 2019.

Same issue, had to switch to Chrome for G meet , Hope Apple fix it asap

I have a LG 5K monitor, same issue - works fine with Chrome and not with Safari.

I just got the new M1 MacBook Pro and need to retest (after holiday) - just downloaded the Safari Technology Preview to try as well.

I have the same issue when I want to use google meets or blackboard collaborate in safari, this issue started when I updated macOS to bigsur, after 30 seconds aprox, the issue is fixed by itself, but it's annoying to wait, apple please fix this issue, #applefixsafari

I am also having really distorted audio issues when using google meet and this is the case when using AirPods or without, the only thing that seems to resolve the issue is leaving the meeting repeatedly and then rejoining

I have this issue too, but without earpods. Regardless of whether I'm using my speakers or bluetooth headset, Google Meet gives me really pure audio while I'm using it with Safari.

No problems with Google Chrome.

This is really annoying as I use two google accounts, one personal and one for work. I use Safari for my work account.

Same here,

The audio output device does not matter, I get about 20 seconds of cracking sound every time I start a google meet session with Safari(Version 14.0.1 (16610.2.11.51.8)). No problem with Chrome.

Running BigSur - macOS 11.0.1 (20B50)

I have the same issue. I have two monitors each with video/audio input/out. I have tried removing them and re-adding them. I have tried to reinstall the os, reinstall chrome, reinstall google hangout plugin, reset privacy settings and give access to chrome and nothing seems to work.

The only work around is use Firefox.

I have the same issues with Safari regardless of using airpods or MacBook Pro speakers. I have to use Google Chrome so as to have Google Meet sessions without sound issues.

Can confirm.

Leaving Google Meet running for 5-ish minutes allows it to finally sync the audio from various participants.
