MacOS Big Sur Safari 14 Google Meet wired EarPods poor audio

I have a LG 5K monitor, same issue - works fine with Chrome and not with Safari.

I just got the new M1 MacBook Pro and need to retest (after holiday) - just downloaded the Safari Technology Preview to try as well.

I am having the same issue - and not just through AirPods - but just through my MacBook Pro 2020 16" model's speakers. It's all crackling and breaking up. Sounds terrible. However, works perfectly fine in Chrome. There must be a compatibility issue in the new OS/Safari

Having the same issue.

The only fix I have found is making sure the AirPods are connected to my Mac before I join the meeting.

Though this is not a permeant solution and occasionally there is still some crackle.

I am experiencing this problem as well. It is only when I use Safari and Google Meets - and it is very frustrating. One work around that I found was to download Firefox and use it as a browser - I experienced no problems then. It is really frustrating because I prefer to use Safari, and saw an article that said Apple was investing in upgrading Safari. I guess they still have work to do.

I have the same issue when I want to use google meets or blackboard collaborate in safari, this issue started when I updated macOS to bigsur, after 30 seconds aprox, the issue is fixed by itself, but it's annoying to wait, apple please fix this issue, #applefixsafari

I am also having really distorted audio issues when using google meet and this is the case when using AirPods or without, the only thing that seems to resolve the issue is leaving the meeting repeatedly and then rejoining

I have daily classes for school on Google meet and I usually use it on safari. Right after I updated it, my google meet speaker audio turned choppy and distortwd. I have turned to use it on Google chrome instead, but I still prefer it on safari. APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS SOON.

Yep I know that chrome isn't the fastest and I also feel that as my fans went nuts being louder than people talking in the meeting and the chat opening and closing animation is not the greatest but until the fix happens nothing can be done unfortunately

I just got the new Mac book as well. I was using Google Meet on safari hoping it wouldn't kick me off like when I was on google chrome. The sound is the same without headphones, it's like a vibrating static sound. I use google meet everyday for work so I am hoping this Google compatibility issue works out soon.

I have this issue too, but without earpods. Regardless of whether I'm using my speakers or bluetooth headset, Google Meet gives me really pure audio while I'm using it with Safari.

No problems with Google Chrome.

This is really annoying as I use two google accounts, one personal and one for work. I use Safari for my work account.

Same here. I have also had to use chrome for my meetings. Did you also notice your input volume was very quiet?

I was also experiencing this issue with just using the external speaker, no headset.

The audio output device does not matter, I get about 20 seconds of cracking sound every time I start a google meet session with Safari(Version 14.0.1 (16610.2.11.51.8)). No problem with Chrome.

Running BigSur - macOS 11.0.1 (20B50)

We are experiencing the same issue. Our company runs tons of scheduled Google Meet events throughout the course of each week and it has been a complete nightmare. We have exactly the same issue as described above. Apple needs to solve this ASAP.

I am having the same issues. I find that the number of tabs open on a given browser tends to affect the sound quality of the Google Meeting. Usually, I close everything down and just leave the Google Meeting on, and the sound resolve after 1-5 minutes.

I have the same issue. I have two monitors each with video/audio input/out. I have tried removing them and re-adding them. I have tried to reinstall the os, reinstall chrome, reinstall google hangout plugin, reset privacy settings and give access to chrome and nothing seems to work.

The only work around is use Firefox.
