Apple Watch - Walkie Talkie - New Conversation, my iPhone starts ringing!

Not sure if this update will help, but I can confirm that my iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.3 and Apple Watch running watchOS 7.2 still works flawlessly connecting Walkie-Talkie with my son’s iPhone X running iOS 14.3 and his Apple Watch running watchOS 6.2.9. However, when connecting Walkie-Talkie to my wife’s Apple Watch running watchOS 7.0.2 and her iPhone SE running iOS 14.2, it activates the (null) Audio call.

My watch is cellular, and when using the watch data (phone powered off), it still has the same results connecting successfully to iOS 14.3 but initiating the (null) Audio call to iOS 14.2.

I’m guessing that iOS 14.2 is the culprit and 14.3 does contain the fix.

Updated to 14.2 and all is good. No more phone ringing with walkie-talkie

Version 14.2 can resolve the issue for me.

I've updated to the new iOS 14.2 (iPhone X) and watchOS 7.1 (Series 4), seems from my experience this new update has fixed all of the issues I'd been experiencing.

I did try rebooting that did not help. I did unpair my watch, delete, and restore from a backup and that seemed to help for now.

Installed 14.2.1 solves the issue on iPhone 12 pro

Yep -- it's definitely a bug -- like you say it's essentially a FaceTime call in the background that stays connected allowing the "instant response" once the first connection is done -- something is making the phone think it's a proper call which is what's causing the problem and since 14.1 on some devices it seems.

My Wife and myself have the same iPhone SE running 14.2 and same Watch3. The only difference is she hasn’t updated her watch and still running 7.0.3

Her phone doesn’t have this problem when been contacted on Walkie Talkie for the first time.

My Watch is running 7.1. I get the (null) call every time she tries to contact me on Walkie Talkie first time round.

I’d say the issue lies with Watch OS 7.1, and until Apple updates past this OS version the problem will persist.

This issue has come on within a week, and I’ve noticed another oddity where the Sleep Alarm doesn’t sound. The watch has been updated for a few weeks and problem didn’t exist the week before. 🤯

With new iOS and applewatch updates (iOS 14.3 watchOS 7.2), the error is fixed. The walkie-talkie works now. good

I just updated my iPhone7 to 14.3 and my iWatch series 6 to 7.2 and so far it appears to be fixed.

It still does the same on my wife’s phone, she is still running 14.2.

I can confirm this on my iPhone 12 Pro running 14.2 with my Watch running 7.0.2 (18R402). When she or I first tap and hold the walkie button, the other person gets an incoming call on their phone that shows the caller’s name along with (null). The call connected green pill shows in the upper left corner on their iPhone, but tapping it opens the dialer with “call failed” and the green pill indicator no longer appears. The null call does not appear in the recents list.

I’m in liaison with Apple Support over a different issue, but mentioned it yesterday.

They are aware, in fact she was having the same issue. She also mentioned 14.2 took it away for some. But then it just came back. Probably after contacting someone else with the issue. But wasn’t sure.

Either way, she assured me they are aware and looking at the fix as it doesn’t affect everyone.
