Apple Watch - Walkie Talkie - New Conversation, my iPhone starts ringing!

Walkie Talkie has always used FaceTime audio behind the scenes. For whatever reason starting recently that "call" is being revealed on the iPhone. Seems like a bug to me.

Updated to 14.2 release candidate last night. Not getting the green outgoing call indicator and this morning got a Walkie talkie that didn’t call the phone...

No. That’s not what I said.

I just said I installed 14.2 and since then can’t reproduce the issue.

I have no idea if it’s a bug fixed in 14.2 or simply updating the OS (with whatever version) forced something to change.

All I can say is what I’ve experienced.

Excellent! I'm glad to hear she acknowledged and they're aware. That was in fact what I attempted to do in my last AppleCare call. I asked the Senior Advisor if he could ascertain if Engineering knew about the issue. He didn't seem keen on searching.

It's very rare, in my experience, to get poor AppleCare support. I've been a customer for decades and almost always the tech support provided is excellent. This time, it was sub par.

An even further update: my experience with WT has now totally reverted back to the original problem.

When I initiate WT the phone acts as if it’s making a call. When Watch isn’t paired to the phone (eg, phone has switched off) WT works as expected. With phone connected to Watch, WT exhibits odd symptoms.

Have you ever try to reboot both devices after updating iOS 14.2and watchOS 7.1?

So I’ve discovered that this isn’t fully fixed.

If the Watch is in sleep mode (bedtime sleep mode) and someone tries to Walkie Talkie, the phone ends up ringing.

I have just installed 14.3 RC and after a first test it looked like the problem was not present anymore.

Will see if it keeps working normally, finger crossed.

Yep exactly the same thing -- when I get a walkie talkie, the phone rings -- if I make walkie talkie then I see the call indicator top right on phone. I've unpaired and repaired watch as a new device -- same. Also deleted WT and FaceTime and reinstalled. Same.

This issue exists when tested Walkie Talkie between my wife and I. My iPhone 12 Pro on beta 14.2/Watch Series 6 on beta 7.1. Her iPhone 12 Pro on current release version/ Watch 6 on current release version. I haven’t tested any other combo.

My first ever iOS device was 11 Pro. Then restored to 12 Pro. First Watch was Series 5 then restored to Series 6. My wife’s first iOS and Watch was 12 Pro and Watch 6 with new Apple ID. She couldn’t even accept Walkie invite until I realized her Apple ID wasn’t yet linked with iMessage/FaceTime.

I have one SE and two S6s, and it cannot reproduce this issue on my other WT6, only one.

I also search this problem then I am here to reply on the forum..

I think it is bug needs official release to fix, and I am not alone.

Call with Apple and they’ve run remote diagnostics on my devices to go to engineering. Will hear back next week.

Hoping a fix will make it to a 14.1.x release or at least 14.2 when they release ProRaw

One question I have -- have you recently changed phones / watch? if so do you still have you iCloud account / other phone active or have you wiped and removed it from iCloud?
