It's not supposed to. There isn't any disk access to an iOS device, and they won't appear in the Finder on Mojave or earlier; use iTunes and other applications specifically designed to interact with it.

Before upgrades it DID show up! It is the easiest way to delete photos from my iphone which also showed up on desktop!
