Hello Lindenbaum,

I've just got rid of it by:

  1. Using Finder to go to "Library/LaunchAgents" and moving the most recently added and suspicious looking file to the bin.
  2. Did the same here "Library/LaunchDemons"
  3. And here "~Library/LaunchAgents"
  4. I also went to "Applications" and sorted by most recently added to see if anything suspicious has been added, and removed that.
  5. Then I restarted my Mac and it's fixed!

Good luck!

I went to your link and read the instructions. Step 3 says to go to System Preferences> Printers & Scanner> click on printer. But in my case, there is no printer. No default printer is listed. Zippo. My office jet 5740 is not shown.

On the 23rd, the Apple support tech was not able to assist because printer could never be found to download new drivers/ software. Tech gave up. Over 3 days, I tried everything, but kept getting messsge “could not locate printer”. What I find strange is that I could still print from iphone. Why is that? Wouldn’t the certification debacle affect Apple iPhones too??

Hi guys,

You probably have hp utlities tools installed on you computer (Application > HP Folder)

HP provided an update yesterday.

Download HP Easy start app on HP web site.

Lanch App > Click on HP Easy start (Between Apple and File) > Uninstall

After uninstalling, reinstalling with HP Easy start will provide the last update and should solve the problem.

Hope this will work for y'all too.

Peace.

I just find it interesting that if you remove the hp folder inside the Printers folder inside the drive's Library folder, then install this newly downloaded HP Printer file, you do not suffer from the issue that started this discussion in the first place, yet if you remove the offending folder listed in the popup warning, the Software Update says you have an update of this HP installation, and if you install the HP printer system *that* way, the popup comes up again.

I have followed your suggestion (tcmeyers). Worked almost perfectly, except for one thing: there is still one of these messages active each time I wish to print ("Matterhorn.xxx will damage...."), I click OK, and the print goes on normally. I am using a Macbook Pro 2017 with Catalina 10.15.7. Any other tips, anyone? Thank you on beforehand... :-)!

It worked eventually - I found a screen hiding behind my browser screen which required further action, and my HP printer is now working fine without the warning pop-up. My other issue was that when trying to download the driver for my Samsung printer (after HP uninstalled it) it wasn't available for Mac OS 10.15, only up to 10.14. So I had to download it from an alternative site. Hopefully not a malicious one!!

I have resolved this issue for my combination of computer (iMac with macOS Version 10.15.7 Catalina) and printers (HP ENVY 4520 and an HP OfficeJet 4630). After uninstalling all HP files related to my printers, I turned off both of the printers. Then I went to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and opened the Printers and Scanners page. I moved the cursor into the window that displays the available printers and right clicked on that window. The option displayed is to Reset printing system. I clicked on that and all of the printers and scanners were deleted. I still saw the offending pop up message so I clicked on "Show in Finder" and deleted the files that were highlighted. Then I emptied the trash and restarted the computer. Once the computer had restarted, I downloaded the HP Smart App from HP's support page. Using that app I reinstalled both of my printers. (To add a printer click on the + sign at the upper right corner of the Home Page of the app.) Then I used the options presented on the Home page of the App (the little colored tiles) to print and scan and both worked. The previous series of steps that I used to print or scan are no longer what works but I can much more easily not print and scan from the HP Smart App. Also, I am no longer seeing the error message pop up "HPxxxxxx.framework will damage your computer. " I hope this helps any of you who< like me, have been struggling with this for the past week.

Yes, but does the printer work? it's hard to imagine the printer doesn't need at least some of those files?

I went to HP website, downloaded the latest update 5.1, and installed and once restarted my Mac told me I didn't need an update and the printers worked fine.

So the problem is that the HP on the Mac website is corrupted and once the update happens it starts giving warnings but once the actual HP update is installed from HP it stops. So HP probably uploads those to the Apple site but this one got corrupted - just a guess.
