Hello Lindenbaum,
I've just got rid of it by:
Good luck!
Hi tcmeyers,
I tried the suggestion of IronBadger at
I first followed his second suggestion to "Uninstall HP Software ...", but this method failed on his step 4. with "No devices have been found".
His third suggestion "Edit: Systems administrators and those unable to use HP Easy Start can use HP Easy Admin to download the software pkg files directly." (HP Easy Admin is explained at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06164609 )
worked for my setup of macOS Catalina 10.15.7 with HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw printer. HP_Easy_Admin.app downloaded the hp-printer-essentials_B-5_14_6.pkg . When run, this package seems to install updated printer drivers. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw printer is still not found by the "HP Easy Start.app" application, but I was able to go to System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, and add my LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw printer as an IP printer with the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) protocol using the IP address appearing on my printer's screen. Back to work with a functioning printer :-).
Hopefully this approach also works for others.
Someone in an HP Community thread posted that Apple did a temporary fix and posted this link with descriptions. Both my MacBook which I unsuccessfully tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers on and my iMac which I did not make any changes are now able to print.
Thank you! The uninstall/clean install solution from tcmeyers worked for me, on a MacBook Pro running Catalina. Finally solved my problem after I spent several frustrating days trying to get rid of the endless popup messages.
I have done every recommendation over the last 3 days. All have failed. The Apple tech removed “malware” from my Mac book pro on the 23rd. Subsequently, my laptop could not find my office jet 5740 printer (and this couldn’t install software drivers). tech gave up and told me to connect via USB cable. Tried again today. No luck. my Mac unable to find my printer. I can print from my iphone so I sent stuff to my phone. I’m sitting in airport ready to fly to Chiapas, Mexico. Will have to address when I get home. Problem better be fixed. I am so tired of this.
Joema,
yes, I did do exact procedure of tcmeyers. Several times. I also chatted with HP support and did their series of steps. Four different steps, depending on whether previous step failed. Plus I have done other stuff. Each time my printer is not recognized so unable to go forth with download. I have tried it with the name of my printer Officejet 5740 and also not knowing my printer. I do not understand why it needs to recognize my printer to download the software. Again, fortunately I could print
from iphone and also make copies. In 2 weeks when I return home, hopefully I will be able to talk to HP on the phone. Or Apple support again. Maybe the Apple tech guy had me trash something I should not have. He did screen share with me, then gave up on me after multiple attempts to find printer. That’s 4 days ago now.
HP support has “way around” for this problem. I was on hold for over two hrs and the fix took a little over a 1/2 hr but the pop up is gone and the printer prints and copies. Fax doesn’t work but I don’t use it. The technician was very patient and professional. He had already done more than 100 fixes. You must first use their virtual chat to get a case number and then call them with the number provided Good luck
I had this problem. On 10/26/20 I called HP and they said Apple is requiring all printers to be AirPrint driven, as of the last upgrade to Catalina OS 10.15.7. (And that is about when my annoying pop up alerts started.) So cabled access to printing won't work anymore for Macs. I have two older printers, a Color LaserJet M277dw (wireless) and an older B&W high throughput LaserJet M401n (not wireless). To switch the M277dw to AirPrint wireless, I went to Apple menu, System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, deleted my old drivers in the left column (use the minus sign at the bottom to delete), and then added AirPrint for the M277dw (by clicking on AirPrint at the bottom of the left column), so it now prints wirelessly using AirPrint. Very straightforward.
HP tech support for Apple said either Apple will have to change their policy on making all printers so they are wirelessly AirPrint driven, or I will have to upgrade my old B&W high-throughput LaserJet M401n with a wireless one like the M479fdw (color) or the M428fdw (B&W). This is only a problem for my MacBook Pro, not my iPhone, nor my iPad, both of which come from Apple programed to print wirelessly.
To get rid of the incessant pop up box, I clicked on the "Show in Finder" in the alert box ["HPDeviceMonitoring.framework" will damage your computer"] to find the offending folder and simply deleted the entire folder. I reasoned that if I upgrade so my hp printers are all AirPrint compatible, I won't need any of the hp software in those folders, and the hp tech support person said that should work fine going forward. The bad news (I suppose) is if Apple changes their mind about using the old hp drivers instead of AirPrint, in which case I would have to do an un-install and re-install of hp drivers, because I took out a file recommended in the post here and now I can't find which folder to put it back in. This won't be an issue if I upgrade my old B&W printer.
The good news is my wireless printer now works and I have stopped the pop up alerts. I'm a big fan of Apple, but I wish Apple had more robustly alerted people about this. It would have saved me a lot of time.
Two more things (hdwhite1 adding to my post above):
1. my old wireless hp printer was not "AirPrint", but its wireless works fine using AirPrint, so you don't have to upgrade to a new AirPrint model of hp printer if you have an older wireless like my hp Color LaserJet M277dw.
2. Others have said, and my hp tech support person confirmed on 10/26/20, the issue is due to Apple revoking the certificate for hp drivers as of the latest OS update Catalina OS 10.15.7 (on about 10/23/20) and replacing that system with their own AirPrint driver that works with hp wireless printers.
I have two Macs and two HP printers in different locations. The problem occurs only the newer set not the older set.
I have a HP LaserJetP1102w. It is so old that HP stopped updating its drivers years ago. My Mac now uses a generic driver. In the past this printer could operate wirelessly. I reconnected it by USB to the Mac years ago, and it still runs.
In contrast I have an HP MFP125nw. I have almost always used it wirelessly with the newer of my Macs. And it is that Mac that is giving me fits. I have no problem with the older Mac.
I had the same problem and tcmeyers´s solution completely solved my issue.
The only difference that I had following this steps was that my system was not allowing me to open the "HP Easy Start" software. It seems to be blocking the software as it had been classified as a "Malware". So, I tried to reboot my system into the "Safe Mode" (holding the shift key after rebooting the Mac) in order to run it. Once on Safe Mode, the system allowed me to open the "HP Easy Start" software and to follow the steps describes by tcmeyers.
Thanks a lot for your time posting this steps.
Be safe!
I did a search for "HPDeviceMonitoring.framework". This folder was in Mackintosh - Library - Printers - HP. I moved the folder to the trash and then clicked OK on the pop up which closed OK. I haven't emptied the folder from the trash but have checked that I am still able to print.
I tried the uninstall and reinstall process without success. I can print but the pop-up with the "HPDM.framework" will damage your computer is still showing up constantly.
Fine, I just leave it on a corner and continue working but it is rather annoying.
Any other ideas? removing/renaming files breaks the printing
Apparently Apple revoked the certificate for the driver for HP printers. So now the wonderful security detects it as malware. Here is a link explaining what has happened and how to fix it. mac-users-unable-to-print-after-apple-revoked-hp-certificate
Yeah I tried removing the printer and using HP utility and got the same warnings and wouldn’t install printer. Luckily I was able to print from my windows PC. From what I have read HP requested Apple revoke the certificates?? Not sure why but Hp forums filled with unhappy users as well. Not happy with HP or Apple
My computer showed an update, just a couple days after I had this pop up problem. It was for HP drivers only. Once I clicked to install it, my computer had no problems. I have not tried to print, so I guess I don't know for sure, but I think things are ok now.
