I solved this and the inability to print by following these steps exactly:
Go to 123.hp.com
Do NOT put in your printer type, instead use the "My device is not listed" link. This takes you to a more generalized tool to download.
Click the Download button. The application "HP Easy Start" version 2.9.3 will download.
Open this app... do NOT go beyond the first screen. Instead, look under the HP Easy Start menu next to the Apple menu, and select and choose "Uninstall HP Software..."
This launches the Uninstaller. Click Continue. Then it takes quite a while to remove all HP files.
When it's done, there is a button to relaunch HP Easy Start, called "Set Up New Device". Click that.
This time "Agree" and hit the Continue button. Make sure of the listed things on the next screen and click Continue.
Select your printer (mine is a printer on the network, it just shows up by its name, e.g. "Anubis") and click Continue.
Click "Install" in the next panel. The 'essential' software is downloaded, and permission must be given to proceed with installing.
Installation seems to take a long time. When it is done click Continue.
At this point you can set up Status and Alerts. I don't know what happens if you do, I just skipped that step by clicking Continue.
In the next panel, click "Add Device..." button. That doesn't take long. Then click "Print Test Page".
If you are lucky like me that page prints. Click Continue. Next is to set up online access things. I didn't really want that, so when I clicked the "Continue Online..." button I did NOT click the "Register My Printer" button in the web page that opened. You might want to.
I confirmed that printing from an app actually works, and then restarting the computer did NOT result in the "damage" warning.
YAY.
Worked on a Catalina iMac and a Mohave MacBook Air.
Thank you so much this was spot on.
I saw there Airprint advice on the HP site - I love how they assume that everyone has an AirPrint machine! My old photosmart is still running fine thanks HP!
Uninstall, reinstalled, and it worked...but only for one day. Then the problem returned.
Same for me, but it worked only for one day. Then the problem returned.
If you trash those files, your printer won't print.........
I'm concerned about uninstalling because the HP site says there is no driver for my printer on Mac OS 10.15. Please are you able to advise further, other than buying a new printer!
Sure that works but you then can't use the printer. So it is not at all a solution. APPLE and HP should solve this right now. What a ridiculous situation.
Yesterday’s update did not fix the issue
I tried downloading the HP easy install and it wouldn't work. Didn't download, couldn't be opened. I am stuck with that same warning on the screen.
Shop WW,
Another person wasn’t able to launch it too. But you say it wouldn’t download?
I tried to open the HP easy start and it said it was still downloading. Its icon bounces but doesn't open. I had to force quit it. Tried to open it again but, it does nothing when you click on it.
Thank you so much. I registered just to thank you for saving me time and nerves! :-)
very helpful, it works.
Do we know the source of the pop up? Apple update? HP Update? Other? Will it be fixed in the next few days by a new Apple or HP bug fix?
I have nothing to go past the first page with. It flat out won’t open the app.
Today, easy start did open. But in the menu next to the Apple, there is no option for uninstall.
