Hey there! I’ve seen this after the update as well, I think HP drivers are out of date and need to be updated to work. Here’s what worked:

First, if updating the software manually doesn’t work:

Open Finder, on the top menu hit Go > Computer > Macintosh HD (Usually) > Library > Printers.

Save (If you need to, and Delete the HP folder from there, (You’ll notice when clicking “Show in Finder” when you get the errors, these are where the files are, in this case old, outdated drivers and files).

Once deleted, open System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.

Right click (or Control click) select “Reset Printing System”, (This will delete any existing Printers and Scanners).

Once done:

If USB Printer, dis connect/re connect, you may see the option to “Install” the new HP software.

If a wireless “AirPrinter”, just hit the “+” sign to re-add the printer and select “Add”.

Do a test print to make sure it’s working again!

This is Gatekeeper, Mac’s security doing its job, most likely if you’re getting that error message, it’s a good thing to remove the older software.

Hope it all goes well!

I just had this same issue, while before I had been using the drivers directly from HP, I removed the printer from the System Preferences, then re-added it. I'm using a networked printer at home, but if your printer is able to use Bonjour, it should work as well, or at least hopefully.

You will need to go to System preferences, the to printers & scanners. When re-adding it you will likely get "“fax.backend” will damage your computer." Uncheck report... then click ok. If you see your printer in the print dialog box, select it (mine is setup for bonjour), the at the bottom drop down "Use" select "Auto Select" for your driver. Wait until is finishes, then select add. Should it still not work after adding it back, remove it again, but this time try using "Secure Airprint" if you have that option available.

Hopefully this will help until a patch is released.

My solution for Catalina iMac and an HP P1505. I googled HP and the model number and updates. In my case : hp laserjet update p1505

I got the below page as a hit. Went to this page: It's the HP driver page. There were new drivers in August.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-p1500-printer-series/3435666/model/3435667

Downloaded the drivers. At some point there was a warning that this might not be legit, but since I had gone there, I clicked OPEN ANWAY (or whatever it said). It downloaded, I allowed installation, and everything runs fine now.

Same problem today with HP 8710 and IMac 10.15.7

HP tech support got me printing again by removing the printer then reinstalling in system preferences using Air Print instead of secure air print in kind. They said it's a workaround until they fix the problem. Does anyone know how to remove the pop ups. I have tried looking up any hp Plist files in Launch Agents and Launch Daemons with no luck.

Had the same problem and seems to be caused by the new Catalina upgrade.

To get a document printing again, I did the following:

1) Added a new printer (this might not be absolutely necessary, just indicating my steps)

2) Deleted the file in the error message, click Finder button then bin it

3) Tried to print a document and because that file was missing it asked if I wanted to install the drivers so I said yes

4) Clicked through the error messages again

5) The document now prints

Not perfect but will get you going. I now click through the error messages.

Hope there is a fix for this as I'm reluctant to install new updates on my Mac if these things keep happening.

Have you read this thread?

Apparently, Apple have renewed the old certificate, so printer should now work even without installing newer drivers.

But if that's not happening for you, download the HP print drivers from apple.

And if you object to the idea of Apple remotely killing software on your Mac, do leave them feedback on the feedback site.
