iMac 2020 crashing

Please uninstall the upgraded RAM and then retest. I would never buy OWC RAM from Amazon, only purchase it directly from the vendor!

Do you have any 3rd party RAM? If so where did you get it?

If you have a 27" iMac open the RAM access door in the back and make sure the RAM is securely seated in their slots.

It appears it getting time to contact your nearest Apple Genius Bar or Authorized Apple Service Provider to have it looked at.

Mine crashes primarily when I’m using Final Cut Pro and exporting videos, and almost always when I’m using Safari at the same time. I can guarantee a crash 100% of the time.

it will also crash when I’m using Handbrake to convert video files.

These two programs always cause the machine to crash. Other than those two, my iMac will run fine with zero issues.

So it’s tough to rule out a software issue. It could be the software I’m using is increasing heat and causing thermal issues? I’ve ran Numerous RAM tests and it always comes back clean so my 3rd-party OWC 128GB RAM seems to check out.

if you get your fixed, I’d like to know what it is since Apple has told me they can’t find anything wrong with it.

FYI, swapped OWC with Apple ram. Same issue. Crashing when fan spins up. Ran for past few days. Multiple crashes, using multiple apps. Activity monitor shows high CPU usage prior to freezing.

I've informed OWC, and in the other thread many others have informed OWC. Not one response back other than "we'll exchange it". Returns are given usually after some tense exchanges with OWC or Amazon.

OWC has not made any official statements. It's a huge problem and considering the threads discussing the problem, it has to have made it on OWC's radar.

I couldn't return it as I didn't open the box until after the 14-day period lapsed, so I was committed to troubleshooting the problem as Apple did not provide any insight.

Fortunately I kept the 8GB or OEM RAM when I bought the machine so when I realized that it was working fine with the OEM RAM, that signaled to me there was something else going on.

You're welcome. My new iMac was crashing multiple times a day for three months before I was able to pinpoint the OWC issues. I was quite invested and made it personal to figure this out. My brand new (and very expensive) iMac was literally useless with OWC RAM.

Did this last crash occur with the OWC RAM removed?

Well, I'm good. Looks like, for me, it was a faulty logic board. Thanks to all for the support.

Yes, my iMac has been perfect since the logic board was replaced.

Okay, remove the OWC RAM and test the computer with the original RAM in it. If the computer operates okay then you know it is RAM related. I would then contact OWC, if they determine it will need to be returned then you will have to deal with Amazon. Then buy directly from OWC.

I am having crashing issues as well. A brand new Mac, All-in-One, has been crashing since day 1. It freezes, then restarts. I had to bring it for repair, haven’t gotten it back yet. This is my first Mac, and I can’t say I’m impressed. Considering the price tag, I expected more, especially from customer service. Everyone has been very nice, but this is a brand new machine. I expected 5 star customer service. I posted my experience here, and Apple removed it, saying it wasn’t constructive. I expect this to be removed as well.
