iMac 2020 crashing

Hello!

I purchased a 2020 iMac back is August and upgraded the ram with compatible DDR4 2666.

It doesn't crash very daily or even weekly but it has crashed four or five times since I purchased it. When it crashes the fans flare up making the iMac hover a bit and then it shuts down and lands back on the desk.

I checked to ram and it reads at 2667 which is slightly different than the stock specs. I've switched ram slots as well. Unfortunately, it is hard to test it with the original ram because I need to extra ram in my daily use (also one of the ram sticks fell off a low shelf so I'm a little weary of putting it back in).

I also had a lot of data put onto the SSD when I received the computer as well.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues/have any idea what it could be?

@TaraLeeOm - Just giving you a heads-up that I resolved the problem (and many others). Turns out there is a genuine problem with OWC RAM and the new 2020 iMacs. Removed all the OWC RAM and used 128GB of Apple OEM Micron RAM (from Crucial) and all the problems I've been having for three months disappeared literally minutes after the install. I great, unexpected bonus is that my new iMac runs about 45 degrees cooler, and the fans rarely go above idle. I mentioned my progress on another thread, and many other users have experienced the exact same problem with OWC RAM and resolved it the same way.

First of all, I didn’t unpack it until 25 days after delivery because of a death in my family and I was out of state to be with my loved one. Not that I should have to explain that to you. Apple didn’t care, rep said there was nothing she could do, just bring it in for repair. Of course I would have returned it after the second day of it crashing.

That’s great news. If you could help, if you received a repair order when you picked it up from repair stating what they did along with the problem, could you possibly post it here, minus identifying info of course or email me instead if you prefer to keep it private, it would be greatly appreciated. I’m packing mine up hopefully to take it for repair today and your repair bill could help in my situation. ☺️

if you prefer not to, I’ll understand.

Thanks for checking. When I picked up my iMac at an Apple store, they gave me detailed work order (not a receipt per se) that detailed everything they did. It was called a "repair order". Maybe they didn't do that with you. I just know that you have basically the same iMac I have, exhibiting the exact same sequence of behaviors so I suspect your problem is also my problem but Apple hasn't seen enough of them to be a problem, or is not admitting to anything yet.

I've bought a lot of Macs over the years, and this is the first time I've ever had a Mac go bad not long after purchase. It's a real shame as this is a top of the line, $7K iMac and it's essentially a lemon. I'm curious how well Apple support handles this.

Thanks for the help though. It's greatly appreciated.
