Volume under "sound and haptics" keeps going to zero

iPhone XR, ios 14 - The volume on my iPhone XR (normally set on maximum level) keeps lowering on its own all the way down to zero. Pressing the 'volume up' button on the side of the phone shows the volume at max, but when viewed in 'settings/sound and haptics' it shows all the way down. I can then raise it all the way up again in 'sound and haptics, but at some point it goes down to zero again (even though the side volume buttons show the volume at max. In 'settings/sound and haptics' I keep the 'change with buttons' function turned off. This happens on a daily basis. I discover the issue when I miss calls or texts.

Hi

I spoke to Apple a couple of days ( 5th time ) ago and they came back with the same reply it is law . It is like banging your head against a brick wall . I read her some of the comments on here they are not interested in the slightest in their customers thoughts or views it is very annoying . Plus I said if it is law why does it happen in the car and at home I do not wear earphones . But to me if this is “law “ why does not happen on 2020 iPad ( same software ) and Mac book ? they could not answer so there you have it . I would like to know if it happens with Samsung phones .

I am in the same boat, im actually considering moving to another phone make besides apple, They need to detect when its connected to car speakers, or say a jambox or other wireless speaker... Something that can detect actual HEADPHONE vs SPEAKER... Im absolutely fed up with this "Law". Its not law in the UK, the EU maybe but the UK has no such law so their claiming its law is bull**** because its not the law everywhere. We want the ability to turn this off because it is up to US to decide what is best for our own selves NOT APPLE.

This ******** about law is just apples interpretation of the maximum amount of decibels a device is allowed to create. Nowhere does European law states that device automatically have to lower their volume. The problem here is that we’re only speaking with sheep on customer support lines that have zero knowledge about actual laws or even apples policy for that matter. They’re only parroting what their colleges have been saying. I can’t honestly believe the nerve of these people that actually make these policies, why don’t you people just make a statement and say that you really don’t care about customer experience and are going to do whatever you want anyways. I really don’t care for this at all, my device does not make decisions for me, **** if i want to grab a knife and stab myself in my ear I’m going to do that too.

As a sidenote, with iOS 14.4 after selecting my carkit as “speakers” I have jet to experience an auto adjustment of volume while driving. Which has the benefits of not getting instantly distracted looking at my phone while driving and consequently crashing into something while not looking at the road cause the sound suddenly stopped working. Which was really the minimum they could do. I’ll post again if that changes.

I have to agree with tbie75

this issue is incredibly dangerous, for some reason it only happens on a Bluetooth connection while in the car.

it both instantly distracts you while driving and requires attention to rectify, cause the volume gets turned down so much so, that sound isn't audible at all. If you're running any form of navigation at the time it's really a big oof..
