I recently bought the iphone 12 pro. When I use facetime or facebook messenger video chat, the audio becomes choppy for the other end. Is it a hardware problem or software?

Bought a new 12 pro max for my wife about a week ago. Didn't think about testing it out of the box first before transferring her data over from her old 7 plus. So don't know what IOS version the 12 came with and if the mic was working then or not. We had to update to latest version (14.4) in order to transfer wife's data over and so we did. Transfer went well and everything appeared to be working fine. A few days later wife tried to make a Facebook messenger call with me and I couldn't hear her at all. We then tested FaceTime and tried making phone calls...other couldn't hear a thing...nada. Tested the Voice Memo app and when playing back a recording all we could hear was loud static. To Google we went looking for a solution or to see if others were experiencing similar microphone issues. Did all the troubleshooting and even did a factory reset as a new user and issue still there. Download Phone Diagnostics on the App Store (apple.com) as suggested from someone on the other thread, ran it, and the bottom mic FAILED!!! Using a Bluetooth headset works but such an inconvenience. Took the 12 to Apple store and returned that sucker before the 14 days was up. So disappointed to have paid over $1000+ for a phone and the mic doesn't even work! I especially feel sad for my wife as she was really looking forward to the new 12 pro max, and we were going to use it to shoot photos at our upcoming baby shower :( Holding out on getting another 12 until there's an official fix or Apple acknowledges it. Might even have to wait for the 13 or switch over to Android.
Nice you got a brand new phone. Model numbers with “n” are replacements and may or may not be refurbished.

Recently updated my Iphone I hope it fixes all the issues.
But before that, while videochatting with my dad he made a recording to prove that my audio was really choppy.
Just keep an eye on it. Youve got a year for the warranty.
C_W00D can you share what your replacement model number is and which model 12 you have? I replaced all 3 of my mine and still have the issue. My replacement 12pro max is MG9----/-
DanceTraveler- my model number is MGK9---/A. Iphone 12 Pro (256GB) running iOS 14.3. So far this replacement seems to be working well. Fingers crossed!!!
Mine is the exact same, i have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’m on FaceTime day in and day out and no one can hear me it frustrating, i dont know what to do really!
I would happy to try your solution without the headset if you can tell me what it was

Couldn’t age more. Can’t believe Apple hasn’t fixed this issue for such an expensive device. It’s looking more and more like a hardware design flaw.
I would like to try this but I have apps like ring, Alexa and Waze that use microphone. Turned off with this three app exceptions. I all like to use speaker phone calling.

What model numbers have you had? I am going to have mine replaced tomorrow. I have had two MG913LL/A so I am holding out for a model number starting with N or O if they have them.
