New iphone 12 pro black screen and nonresponsive

Just got the new iPhone 12 pro last night, and the screen turned black and became nonresponsive all of sudden while using iCould to download backups.

I've tried:

  1. force restart (volume up + down + on/off button) - still black screen
  2. Charge the phone through the night - still black screen
  3. connected to iTunes to restore/update - still black screen
  4. Use iTunes on both Macbook and Windows PC - still black screen

I think I've tried all troubleshooting, but nothing works. Feel really upset and frustrated. The only thing I haven't done but will do is to return it.

Hope someone has a solution here : )

I have a new 12 pro as well and it was going black during phone calls. No response at all - had to reboot to get it back. Apple sent a new phone and it's doing the same thing. I would think this is an iOS problem and not hardware, but no one at Apple Support knows about it. Cant believe they would just send out new phones and not address the issue...Crazy.

Spent several hours with Apple trying to fix the issue of black screen brand new iPhone 12 mini. They had no answer for this issue. It happens during phone calls. If the primary function of the phone does not work because of excessive software and data collection by Apple then whole point of the phone is rendered useless. Apple needs to find a fix.

Mine just did this too for the first time. I started using iCloud for backups. Prior to this when I was backing up with iTunes only it never did this. Not sure if that is something to look into. This is really annoying. Though I could fix with a force restart I use my phone as a key to my car, to get into my house, as a security system. Apple you need to be more reliable than a black screen and force restart. I had to boot my iPad to look up what to do. I thought my phone was just bricked.

This problem comes and goes with my iPhone 12 mini. Screen blacks out during phone call. When I've shut down then restarted, the problem goes away for a while. I can't believe that APPLE have not resolved this problem with update fixes. Makes me wonder if it's hardware. Whatever the case, the fact that people on this forum are saying that Apple Support staff don't seem to know about this problem is a red flag that Apple's commitment to quality is in decline. This should be a red flag for the company. I can accept that glitches happen with new devices. That can happen. But not that Apple seems not to know what's happening. I have been loyal because of quality. I'm seriously thinking of ditching Apple next time I need a new phone.
