iPhone 12 yellow screen

i got my 12 pro yesterday, beautiful machine, but i started to notice some lack of color intensity, i've using an Iphone X for 3 years know, so something was off. I put the two side by side, displaying the same foto, exactly same settings, and it's sad, something is wrong with the 12 pro, the colors are sad and dead and "yellowish".

Any ideas ?

Hello Antonio! I found a solution that works for me and would work for you as well! My new iPhone 12 also had the yellow tint to it so I exchanged it at my local apple store and although the new one was better, it still had the tint to it. My solution is to actually change the color tint of the display by going into your settings < accessibility < display & text size < color filters < turn on and select color tint. You can scroll down and adjust the intensity and the hue. I have my intensity slider all the way to the left and my hue is about 80% to the right which adjust the tint to a more natural color. It has satisfied me and I hope it works well for you!

My 12 Pro Max has a yellow tint with True Tone on, and blue with it off. I simply can't get a normal looking white on my screen.

The best I've gotten is outdoor in daylight, but indoor especially it's out of whack.

I've looked at store display models and of all 9 I've seen of various 12's, they all had a more yellow screen than the XR I had with me.

It's not that I like a cool blue, it's that I like a neutral white that doesn't seem infected with a yellow (or blue, or green) tint. So far I haven't been able to accomplish that with any tweaks very well.

Apple has told me twice the yellow issue people are complaining about are to spec, and there is no issue. I asked them why they look so much more yellow than all their over devices, and more specifically- a calibrated monitor. All my devices look close to my calibrated monitor... except my... 1200 dollar "Pro" level phone.

It is simply not true. These phones are coming with yellowish and even pinkish to red tint even when I have not manipulated the screen at all.

The background to my Internet screen Safari, is extremely dull, off-white if you will.

I have put my iPhone 12 pro next to my iPhone XR and my iPod and they both blew my iPhone 12 pro out of the water.

they were extremely wire and the color is more vibrant on both.

I am not at all pleased with my iPhone 12 pro and have been looking at other devices.

FYI: Apple tech support is aware that there is an issue.

Other issues I am experiencing;

when I clear my browser history it will not fully clear.

when I am in Safari reading a story it flips its self back to a yellow or black background.

if I send anyone a picture and they reply in order for me to see their response I have to hit reply I cannot just simply open the email and read.

I returned my phone to Verizon yesterday. I tried to get over it, but the screen quality is just crap. The contrast is crap. The whites are crap. Also the blue color shift at angles and the fact the screen uses PWM dimming turns me off. This is a top tier 1200 dollar phone and they put these garbage displays in them...

Apple called me back today, and basically reiterated that there are no issues with the displays and to take into the store to have a technician look at it and adjust it to my liking. lol

Maybe this is the new "normal" for Apple. If that's the case, they ought to update all devices so they at least render color similarly across their platform. If I didn't have any other screens in my life, the phone would be fine most likely. But I have TVs, iPad, Watch, computer etc. And all have a nice neutral display. The move to the phone was just too jarring for me.

I'm either getting an 11 on sale or keeping my XR and hoping for some adjustments in the future- or... buying an Android LOL

Good luck all!

PS, in an earlier post I take something back. With True Tone OFF it wasn't too blue. It was too green. Comparing to older models the 12 PM with True Tone off had more yellow, but the yellow tint and blue in the screen gave it a slight greeny blue look overall, and whites looks more yellow.

So, essentially- the screen had a yellow tint to it, regardless of True Tone.

I almost got used to the warmness of the screen but it is an issue on most of the phones.

However, on mine it’s really just a soft warmer hue, that’s not totally dramatic, but noticeable on some photos.

I do graphic design and color is important to me! But the iPhone 12 Pro is so fast and feels like a mini-computer. I really hope this screen issue will be fixed soon.

The photo quality is stunning on a mac once transferred. However, since I have Apple Care+ I might wait for any software update, and if not I can return or replace my iPhone 12 Pro.

Man I feel your pain. I’ve gone through everything these past couple months to fix it but nothing truly does. Apple failing to work with us with a fix is depressing as well. What I end up doing is using combination of color filters and True Tone on to achieve somewhat clear whites but it still distorts other colors a bit. I turn True Tone off at sunset because it makes the screen orange without ambient light around. Shame on Apple really, shame on Apple.... also notice my screen flickers when viewing pitch black videos. Thankfully I got Apple care on the last day I could so I can request for a replacement if there no fix in a few months . It hurts so much when I look at my iPhone X and it’s better looking that this 12 pro max 🙁

Thank you so much as this is the best way to fix this problem , I’ve called technical support, had a lengthy talk with them and they have documented our phone call and ran a on screen diagnostics with me , they will not send a new device because everything else is fine nothing is broken and Apple techs check everything that may be wrong with the diagnostic! Every test came back with no problems for me and they “can’t”

see this yellow tint I even mentioned this discussion page , my guess the more calls they have about this issue will be the only way a new update will occur to

fix it ! You really helped me a lot since the main reason of me purchasing my phone 12 pro max 2days ago is for the sole purpose of better screen resolution and picture outcome , I’m a mom I hardly do much for myself this was the big “Yay” for me with everything that’s going on during this past year ! You made my day and I still can’t thank you enough !!! Continue being awesome ❤️🥲❤️

Noticed the yellowish screen on my 12 pro instantly on first use that prompts me to google for this issue in the first place.

Went into apple store to get some help. Compared to few of the displays and mine definitely is more yellowish and less brightness. However the tech guy insisted that it looks the same and suggest turning off True Tone would make it better.

Now, my thing is I should not have to turn off True Tone or use any of the other settings workaround to get a whiter screen. My reasoning is that it just means I’m not getting the optimised full potential of the screen display that I was promised. And being a pricey premium phone, I expect nothing short of the highest quality and couldn’t be bother horsing around settings, wasting time with fixes in an apple store etc.

Ended up getting a full refund. I’m no expert but I think it’s the hardware/ panel is not up to standard instead of a software issue. Have to say I’m a bit disappointed with apple after 10 years of being a loyal customer. Not sure if this is a wider issue affecting more phones or people just don’t really care, but I do hope apple will officially recognise this an an issue and take necessary steps to rectify it.

You’d think in the 21st Century that mobile displays for the last several incarnations would have displays designed and calibrated to be as neutral white as white can be; not yellow tinted, not blue-tinted cool white, no green tint - just dead neutral white.

Another small issue is that I find the colour saturation a little pale and lacking. A subtle colour saturation adjustment or colour profiles may have been very welcome, with a digital vibrancy adjustment being even more welcome. Sadly though, the screen looks lack lustre and depressing on what is otherwise a good phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max)

For now, I’ve tried tweaking the Settings>Accessibility>Display & Text Size>Colour Filters and then Colour Tint sliders, but this appears to make worse in other ways for me personally and can lower overall brightness performance power output. Others may benefit from this though.

It’s rumoured that iOS 14.5 may (or may not) address this issue, so we’ll have to wait.

Hi guys.

We have 2 iPhones - 12 and 12 Pro.

Here is what I figured out...

When the True Tone setting is on, the amount of yellowish tint is purposely not consistent. It depends on the ambient amount of light. It’s more pronounced in darker conditions and less or nonexistent when it’s bright.

Take your phone outside in the daylight and try to toggle the True Tone switch - you won’t see any difference in the screen color whatsoever.

Very smart and useful indeed!!

There are 3 ways to go around it if you really want to...

1.Turn the True Tone switch off.

You’ll be doing a disservice to your own eyes in dark rooms, because of the amount of blue light hitting your eyes - could be useful but questionably smart.

2. Go to Accessibility - Display & Text size - Color Filters. Turn it on and adjust the Color Tint - Intensity all the way down and Hue is somewhere in the middle or to your liking.

Useful but possibly not very smart, because quite often the screen is too blue. I used it for a few days and then rejected it.

3. Turn off True Tone, turn off Auto-Brightness (Accessibility - Display & Text Size), crank the brightness all the way up and be happy.

Possibly useful but not very smart at all!

By the way, when Auto-Brightness is on, the amount of full brightness varies depending on the ambient light. Smart!

Apple should educate their Techs how to explicitly explain this to their customers.

Hope this helps.

SK
