iPhone 12 yellow screen

i got my 12 pro yesterday, beautiful machine, but i started to notice some lack of color intensity, i've using an Iphone X for 3 years know, so something was off. I put the two side by side, displaying the same foto, exactly same settings, and it's sad, something is wrong with the 12 pro, the colors are sad and dead and "yellowish".

Any ideas ?

Hello Antonio! I found a solution that works for me and would work for you as well! My new iPhone 12 also had the yellow tint to it so I exchanged it at my local apple store and although the new one was better, it still had the tint to it. My solution is to actually change the color tint of the display by going into your settings < accessibility < display & text size < color filters < turn on and select color tint. You can scroll down and adjust the intensity and the hue. I have my intensity slider all the way to the left and my hue is about 80% to the right which adjust the tint to a more natural color. It has satisfied me and I hope it works well for you!

The yellow tint is clearly visible with true-tone OFF. Please stop comparing with true-tone on as others will just blame true-tone and diminish this issue.

I suspect that there are just lower grade panels being used in the 12/12 Pro when compared to the XS or 11 Pro or that there is a factory issue with the application of the "ceramic shield" which is making the displays look significantly yellower this year. This is just me speculating.

Either way, if you notice it and it bothers you, please return the phone. Do not settle on such a premium device. That is what I did.

I was on the phone with Verizon Support and the rep was able to help me fix this issue!

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > scroll all the way to the bottom and disable "Auto Brightness"

Go to Control Center and adjust the brightness from low to high and it should go to peak brightness and eliminate the yellow hue.

*True Tone should also be disabled

I had an iPhone X I was transferring data from so I noticed the yellow screen issue immediately and how awful it looked compared to my old phone. This fixed it.

I will say this - no one should have to go through these steps to make their display look the way it should. It should come this way straight out the box without having to sacrifice the "Auto Brightness" feature. Apple needs to fix this.

As you get pretty close to white with adjusting hue, I would assume this is just a screen calibration issue and could be fixed with a software update. Looks like they have not calibrated the software with all oled panel manufacturers they use. It's hard to understand how something like this can happen to a company like Apple. Probably would not have been possible in Steve's time. But I would wait for the next os update before returning the phone.

OK. So I got an iphone 12 pro MAX on launch day. Long story short returned it hoping new one will be ok.

No, it is still yellow. Ok yellow might be fixed with a software update but I spoke to apple care today they said they do not know yet if 14.3 will fix this and when will 14.3 come out.

Last night I ran a “black video test” on youtube.

The display turns green and badly starts flickering. This is a hardware issue!!!!

Flickering is only noticeable on blacks but it is there always. Giving me headaches!!!!!

I am returning the phone AGAIN and hoping the third one will be okay!!!!!

Nov 27, 2020 9:23 AM in response to NNDR

I am a victim myself even after changing the third time and all three 12PMs have the same issue. Either I am very unlucky to get a defected device all three times or all 12PMs are the same and not everyone notices the flickering unless they test it. The flickering happens in dark mode or when you do a black video test in dark. Most visible at 30-50% brightness.

The colors are dull, and the overall screen is a very bad experience.

I am just waiting for the London lockdown to lift on 3rd Dec and will compare my phone with the models in store and if required will do a swap there and then having tested the new device there and then.

I am fed up of changing my device the third time!!!!!!

@inigo160 I have tried everything that has been suggested and more. Nothing gets the whits to pop on the iPhone 12 Pro screen. I even spoke with Apple Support yesterday and they do recognize the issue people are having...the problem is they suggest the same crap fix that I've seen online which is this:

  • 1. Open the Settings app.
  • 2. Browse for Accessibility.
  • 3. Tap on Display & Text Size.
  • 4. Scroll for Color Filters.
  • 5. Enable Color Filters and tap on Color Tint.
  • 6. Move the HUE slider to reduce the yellow tone of your display.
  • Tip: You can also adjust the INTENSITY to get the desired result. Hold an older iPhone nearby if you need a white screen standard.

THIS "FIX" DOES NOT WORK!!!! IT ONLY ADJUSTS THE HUE IT DOES NOT BRING BACK THE BRIGHT WHITE THAT IS MISSING FROM THE NEW IPHONES!!!

Apple needs to admit a problem and either offer the 11 Pro at the same special price as the 12 Pro or fix the issue.

this is unacceptable for those of us who bought this phone specifically for the camera and editing capabilities.

My 12 Pro Max has a yellow tint with True Tone on, and blue with it off. I simply can't get a normal looking white on my screen.

The best I've gotten is outdoor in daylight, but indoor especially it's out of whack.

I've looked at store display models and of all 9 I've seen of various 12's, they all had a more yellow screen than the XR I had with me.

It's not that I like a cool blue, it's that I like a neutral white that doesn't seem infected with a yellow (or blue, or green) tint. So far I haven't been able to accomplish that with any tweaks very well.

Apple has told me twice the yellow issue people are complaining about are to spec, and there is no issue. I asked them why they look so much more yellow than all their over devices, and more specifically- a calibrated monitor. All my devices look close to my calibrated monitor... except my... 1200 dollar "Pro" level phone.

You’d think in the 21st Century that mobile displays for the last several incarnations would have displays designed and calibrated to be as neutral white as white can be; not yellow tinted, not blue-tinted cool white, no green tint - just dead neutral white.

Another small issue is that I find the colour saturation a little pale and lacking. A subtle colour saturation adjustment or colour profiles may have been very welcome, with a digital vibrancy adjustment being even more welcome. Sadly though, the screen looks lack lustre and depressing on what is otherwise a good phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max)

For now, I’ve tried tweaking the Settings>Accessibility>Display & Text Size>Colour Filters and then Colour Tint sliders, but this appears to make worse in other ways for me personally and can lower overall brightness performance power output. Others may benefit from this though.

It’s rumoured that iOS 14.5 may (or may not) address this issue, so we’ll have to wait.

As of now you cannot use an iPhone 12 to edit pictures in a colour neutral setting since the screen is so far off from neutral. This is a huge problem in light of this phone being equipped and presented as a photographers tool.

I wish you people would do yourselves a favour and compare the iPhone 12 to a colour neutral grey or white background then you will understand that there is no amount of toggling true town, ambient light or color spaces on /off or adjusting screen colors. It won’t help.

Please stop giving advice to people that will not help solve the problem.

Totally agree with you, I had multiple conversations with Apple support and they deny any reports of "Yello tint" or any sort of display issues with iPhone 12 Pro Max. I even posted on the Facebook community and it seems there are many first time iPhone buyers, who would not even know if there is an issue with the display as the display itself is not bad either. It strikes you the most when you compare it side by side with X or 11. Apple can and should recall all the units with this issue, but this will cost them a lot, so I guess they are going with replacement if someone brings it to the Apple store/ service center. One of the guys even got only display replaced from them and they said if this does not fix they will change some internal components and even that does not fix THEN they will replace it!

Anyway, I did order directly from Apple now and I am not 100% sure this phone will be perfect either. Moreover, Amazon delivers the same iPhone the same day, and Apple, being their own product is still preparing my order for last 3 days and approx delivery time is 7-10 days!

This has been an issue noticed by many users, including me. See the thread below.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/yellow-screen-tint-display-seem-warm-check-here-first.2262691/

I’ve personally been to 2 different Apple stores and compared at least 5 12 Pro models to mine and ALL had the yellow tint issue, that is why I decided not to waste my time with returns and replacements. My 12 Pro was actually better than all display models I saw (achieved higher max brightness) but in terms of the yellow tint, all were the same or worse than mine.

Either this is an intentional shift in calibration by Apple or there is a significant issue with the initial batch of the 12 Pro.

It is especially noticeable when switching between my Apple devices as both my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro have the same cool blue hue display that I’ve also had in all my prior iPhones.

I am more inclined towards that this is a 14.2 software issue. I got my Iphone pro max on 13th Nov. I felt my eyes were hurting more so there is some problem with the display. I compared with my iphone xs max and my 12 pro was yellow. I got my phone changed on 16th Nov. The new one was bright white and looks awesome out of the box with default settings but as soon I updated the software 14.2 it went back to yellow!! Note factory phones come with 14.1. So I am assuming it would be a software 14.2 issue? Otherwise I have failed to understand why my phone was white before updating a new software?!
