usb c digital multiport adapter

I have macbook 2020, 13 inch with two thunderbolt 3.0 adapter. I am thinking of buying the below adapter

https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT207806

  • Will it be able to display the 4k at 60 hz for HDMI. I see that above article does talk about the 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports introduced in 2020
  • Since I have the same macbok with 2 ports, does it mean it will just support 4k @30 hz.

I have contacted support few times but they could not provide the answer.

That display shows a DisplayPort input, along with HDMI. They claim to include only an HDMI cable.

For less money, you could get better performance from a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. This one is in US, but comparable cables are available worldwide:

Monoprice USB Type-C to DisplayPort 3.1 Cable - 5Gbps, Active, 4K@60Hz, Black, 6ft - Product # 24444 US$22.24

There are several ThunderBolt-3 Docks you could use instead of the Apple Digital Multi-Port adapter. The best have DisplayPort output as well as a USB-C port for charging the computer.

Be extremely cautious if you need full-motion Video output -- some that require Software Drivers use a "fake" software display-generator that has no graphics acceleration and uses DisplayLink technology instead of hardware.

Do you think there are compatibility issues with the monitor and mac book pro 2020?

to get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• on invoking Option-(Detect Display) button in Displays preferences (from another display)

so try doing some of those things and see if the display comes alive.

Modern Displays with multiple ports are sometimes busy scanning the other ports, looking for an input, and miss the query from the Mac. They need to pay attention to the port you are actually using, or they will miss the query.

Some displays have On-Screen Display settings that can be used to tell the display a computer is attached on a certain port, or a certain port should be highest priority. Changing those may make your display more responsive.

This may be especially applicable in your case:

Some displays include their own private "sleep" settings for the display alone. This can allow the display to enter its own sleep mode, on top of the Mac's not sending it data. A display that is sleeping on its own cannot respond to the Mac's query, and will stay dark.
