Alright guys, these forums have always been so helpful for me but today I created an account because I am extremely creeped out by my device. When charging the phone has a static sound coming from it as well as beeping. VERY VERY faint but my hearing sensitive and I could’ve sworn I accidentally left music playing. Anyone else having this issue?? Already erased and set up as new! Still happening. Old device does not do this. Very creeped out.
The same thing is happening with my brand new iPhone 12 Pro, I just opened the box and when I plugged the charger I started hearing cracking/arcing noises. I contacted Apple Support and they are going to replace it. They said it isn’t supposed to do these strange noises.
i have noticed that my phone does the weird almost CD spinning noise when I have certain apps open on my phone. Then once I close it out entirely it ends. I don’t like it because it makes me think my phone is going to explode or something.
My phone is always on WiFi. I still get the noise. It doesn’t even have to be plugged in. It can just be sitting idle on a table and the noise will start. Chatted today with Apple tech support. They never heard of this problem! Really? They don’t see all this discussion on these boards about this?
The very same with mine...it makes the sounds even if I haven’t plugged it in! Thinking about going back to my old phone if it keeps up. And obviously one doesn’t want to erase and resetting a new phone right away
Mine makes that intermittent static sound over and over even when I’m not charging it. If I have it’s by my bed I have to turn the volume on the phone down so it won’t bother me but then I may not hear the ringer. It’s annoying and makes me feel like the mic is on or something.
Yah same.I was putting my phone under my pillow since i have my alarms on and it will wake me up immediately.Although while i was already trying to fall asleep i heard like a beeping/static noise coming from iphone 12.i then put it up to my ear and heard like the gears or the fans or whatever it was moving.it was weird though because i can still hear it and i dont know why its doing it.Someone please tell me why!!
I am so relieved to have others hearing these crackling, electric, high pitched noises. When all is quiet, I hear it. It’s driving me nuts! Guess I will call Apple soon... Thanks for your description, that helps....
The static sound I’m experiencing is not faint.
I hear the same static sound and it is specially prominent around the back of the phone where the magnets are placed.
Mine did has done this several times now not plugged in and plugged in sounds like arcing and sizzling and restarts it self. Apple better fix this not happy
Has anyone received a response to this? Just opened this for Christmas and it’s doing it loudly on day one!

I started to notice the same issue on my iPhone 12 Pro. It also happens when it's not charging. It almost like a sound of a mechanical process like a cd spinning or a fax machine dialing or something like that. It's more noticeable when scrolling through a list like a twitter feed or a webpage.
The sound is also accompanied by heating.
I'm not sure if it's designed this way or it's a fault on my iPhone.
Tonight while charging my 12 pro, (and browsing the web and listening to an audiobook) the phone suddenly began making a loud “sizzling static” sound then the bottom 2/3 of the screen pixelated, like an old TV losing cable connection, and froze. Had to hard restart it. Everything came back on as expected but I’m framed to charge it now.
