iPhone 12 pro won’t wirelessly charge

Picked up new phone. It will not charge on my Qi wireless charger. My family members’ iPhone X and 11 charge fine. Mine initially shows the green battery, then it disconnects from charging and the charger flashes a blue LED, signifying it is no longer connected. This despite using different charger blocks.

Sorry, but your assertion it's not the charger because it works with previous phones is the wrong analogy for iPhone 12. The charging coil in iPhone 12 is not in the same spot as it was in previous phones to accommodate MagSafe. That doesn't mean iPhone 12 isn't compatible with Qi chargers. It actually is. But it likely means your current chargers may not position the charging coils properly with the relocated spot on iPhone 12.

We had charging issues when we first got iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max. After much research, I came to the conclusion my older chargers weren't going to work with iPhone 12. So I bought new chargers and haven't had any issues since. Our new chargers are dual coil and were repositioned to better align with iPhone 12. And this is important, many older chargers don't have higher watt QC 3.0 charging bricks. So my new chargers have 18W QC3.0 bricks. Bam, no issues charging wireless since and it's been over 2 months now.

This might not be a software issue. You'd be better off opening a support ticket with Apple to at least have it officially documented. I did with Apple and they told me to exchange it. I am exchanging mine for a new one that should be here on Wednesday. I wanted to make sure that I could exchange it during the official exchange period. Otherwise it would be treated as a repair down the road and you might get a refurbished unit as a repair.

If this is a software bug then Apple knows about it. What is shady is this might drive people to buy a MagSafe charger during the period where the fix is unavailable. I would not put it past Apple to do something like this. They already didn't include the 20W USB-C charging brick which a lot of people don't already have. They also got caught dumbing down the performance and batter life on the iPhone 6 and 7 when they released the 8 and X.

I'll ask you the same question. What happened after you performed a Forced Restart (not a basic restart), which has solved this for many who were having this issue. Since you responded to the OP, it can be assumed you didn't take any time to read through the thread.

Since you likely didn't do that, I'll take my time and tell you how:

  • Press and quickly release volume up button
  • Then press and quickly release volume down button
  • The press and KEEP HOLDING the power button (keep holding past the swipe to power off) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

See if your phone charges on your Qi charger when you sign back in. My money's on IT WILL.

I just installed 14.2 and my new iPhone 12Pro still will not charge on my Anker PowerWave 7.5 stand. The charger worked flawlessly with with my iPhone XS, but the 12 Pro starts to charge and stops 1 second later. I was hoping this new ios release would fix it, but no such luck. Force restarts didn't work as many have suggested.

Same issue with the 12 pro (tested with x3 12 pro's), using QC3.0 bricks, 6 different qi chargers tested so far - all different manufacturers & all working on xr, xs & 11 models, software is up to date at 14.2. None will charge the 12 pro. Force restart does not resolve as it has for others, it won't even charge temporarily. All of the chargers will recognize a phone has been placed on them but none will charge the device.

Certainly hoping for a software fix.

What I'm seeing in a lot of the posts is incompatibility with some wireless chargers. They may not output enough power. They may have their charging coils in the wrong location, since iPhone 12 phones now have the coil for charging directly in the center of the phone for use with a Magsafe charger if someone wants to invest in that.

I would imagine the charger you own is either a single coil Qi charger or the coils are too low to effective connect with the center coil in the back of the phone. I had one charger which was single coil. It didn't charge our iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. Our other chargers output a higher wattage and are dual coil, so they seem to work.

You may need to buy a better quality charger, with higher output and dual coils.
