iPhone 12 pro won’t wirelessly charge

Picked up new phone. It will not charge on my Qi wireless charger. My family members’ iPhone X and 11 charge fine. Mine initially shows the green battery, then it disconnects from charging and the charger flashes a blue LED, signifying it is no longer connected. This despite using different charger blocks.

Sorry, but your assertion it's not the charger because it works with previous phones is the wrong analogy for iPhone 12. The charging coil in iPhone 12 is not in the same spot as it was in previous phones to accommodate MagSafe. That doesn't mean iPhone 12 isn't compatible with Qi chargers. It actually is. But it likely means your current chargers may not position the charging coils properly with the relocated spot on iPhone 12.

We had charging issues when we first got iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max. After much research, I came to the conclusion my older chargers weren't going to work with iPhone 12. So I bought new chargers and haven't had any issues since. Our new chargers are dual coil and were repositioned to better align with iPhone 12. And this is important, many older chargers don't have higher watt QC 3.0 charging bricks. So my new chargers have 18W QC3.0 bricks. Bam, no issues charging wireless since and it's been over 2 months now.

Mine is on 14.2.1. It will be difficult to replace my chargers, since the one I rely on most is built in to my 2020 Silverado ;) I have no idea how many charging coils are in the truck, but it works with 3 different new Samsungs, worked fine with my iPhone 11, works with my wife's iPhone 11 and works reliably with my 12Pro Max for several days at a stretch. When it quits working on any charger, it quits on all chargers, not like it is intermittent. I'm not buying it being a charger issue, since it works reliably in all my chargers for several days between reboots.

At family we have 3 iPhone X and all works perfectly at all chargers we have at home, just my 12 Pro is the one who fails, once a reboot works for a while. I talked with Apple by chat and then over the phone and they "haven't received any complains" about this. When I have the guy link to this discussion everything changed. I visited AT&T and tested wireless charger they have specially for iPhone 12 Pro and didn't works.

14.2.1 did not make a difference for us. All of our old Qi chargers still don’t work. Only one works when the iPhone 12 Pro Max is laying sideways which is not convenient. Both wireless car chargers also don’t work. ALL of them work fine with wife’s 11 Pro, daughter’s Xs and another X.

Buying new chargers is a workaround but totally useless when it comes to using complimentary chargers supplied at our local cafes and establishments.

I ordered new chargers (2 from Amazon) which all work fine with the 12.

if Apple can’t address this with a firmware update then this is a major goof on their design.

I updated to 14.2.1 last night and finally got my 12 Pro Max to charger on my Belkin charger. Whether it will last or not I cannot say. I'm sure you're on to the answer when you write "about the placement of the Magsafe charger in the new phones."

When I put my phone flat on the charger it did not charge, when I moved it so that it was on a slight angle (because of the lenses) it started to charge.

I had posted about this problem with my iPhone 12Pro. As an update. After the latest patch was installed 14.2 the issue went away but with a little side note. I use a Nanami Fast Charger stand and because of the lenses the phone would not sit flat and charge if it was not in a case. When I put on the clear Apple case it sat flat and charged just fine.

Another update (12/4/20):

I just spent over 3 hours with at least 4 different Apple support technicians on the phone last night. The last senior advisor basically said that Apple has not officially acknowledged that there is a wide-spread problem with iPhone 12 and 12 Pro phones having wireless charging issues as "these phones are relatively new". Not sure I can accept that as they had to have had a long QA period to fully test these. I pointed them to this forum and none of them showed much interest or could validate the accuracy of the posts. Really?

Rather, they made me go through all of the known steps that most of us have reported here (reboot phone, hard reset, ensure latest iOS update is installed, try different chargers, make sure the power supply plug is 20W, remove cases, try different positions on the chargers). NONE of these of course worked with my phone. The final suggestion was to do a full encrypted backup to a Mac, reset the phone to factory default using the plug and hold button procedure, and then do a full restore from the encrypted backup). And that did not make a difference either (as I expected).

So, now they recommended that I call back and submit a request to have a NEW replacement phone mailed to me and they will put a hold on my credit card until I send the other one back. I'm not confident this will fix the problem either but maybe there is just a bad "lot" of phones that got shipped out with this hardware problem? None of the tech support people could confirm that a future iOS update would fix the problem, and even that won't happen unless Apple development can see that it is a widespread problem. This will only happen if ALL of us reports this to their tech support.

I also got the official Apple MagSafe charger with their 20W adapter and it too is a little glitchy when charging. I have to position the iPhone 12 Pro Max in EXACTLY the perfect position or it won't charge. And while it is charging, if it gets bumped or nudged even a slight bit then it stops charging. My wireless car charger, and 4 other wireless chargers in my home office, bedroom, and family room all work fine with my family's other iPhones (X, XS, and 11 Pro) -- all with cases and all charge instantly when placed on the chargers. My 12 Pro Max fails to charge on all of them (all different brands).

It works perfectly with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max. I imagine it would also work with 12 Mini, but I don't have a Mini to test it with.

The value of this charging stand from Geekera is it charges Apple Watch, iPhone and has a 5W charger on the back of the stand for additional devices which use Qi standard, like AirPods Pro or other Bluetooth earbud charging cases (Jabra Elite 85t in my case). If you don't need the other two options, you might want to spend less and look at chargers which are dual plate and at least 18W QC3.0.

This charger you got on Amazon you are saying works well with the 12? I have a 12 mini and think it’s worth a shot to try.

The charging system on the iPhone 11 Pro is different than that of the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 12 series is configured for the MagSafe and those appear to be the devices that people are complaining about. The iPhone 11 pro should work with any Qi compatible wireless charger. You may just need to check positioning. I know that the iPhone 11 Pro that I had worked great with my Belkin wireless charger, and my iPhone 12 Pro is working just fine with it as well. I've also got the MagSafe with the 20w power adapter and it works fine as well.

Lobsterghost, please understand the consistent theme in the messages above. Even though you may not be having a problem lots of others, including me, do have a real problem with our existing wireless chargers working with iPhone 12 models. Google this problem and you will find a lot out there about this issue. Where there is smoke, especially a lot of smoke, you can be reasonably certain there is a fire.

I have a new iphone 12 Mini. I also have three stand up wireless chargers and three disc wireless chargers, all supplied by substantial power supplies. All our phones, including two relatively new iPhone SE-2020's and an XS, wirelessly charge without issue. However, my new my new iPhone 12 Mini will not charge on any of the stand up chargers, even without the Apple leather case, and it only charges intermittently on the disks. If I reboot it and immediately place it on any of our chargers, it starts charging immediately. Wait just a few minutes after rebooting and it will not charge. I have picked up the phone too many times in the morning during just the past few weeks with an almost dead battery because it appeared to charge when I set on a disk the previous night. This is the exact problem discussed above and it is very real.

This issue (having to revert to plugging the thing in to a charging cable) and loosing 20% of my available battery capacity because Optimized Battery Charging won't stay off, are really destroying what might otherwise have been an excellent experience with an otherwise excellent expensive new phone. Both need to be immediately addressed and fixed and the excuses need to stop as in your November 17 @ 11:01message above (I am assuming you are associated with Apple).
