Macbook 12" Early 2016 - MLHC2LL/A - A1534 - External Display Issues

Hello Everyone,

I am attempting to connect my 2016 Macbook Air to the following display:

https://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2TB68A8&opt=ABA&sel=MTO&lang=en-CA

Port Specs are as follows:

1 audio-out

3 USB 3.0 (downstream)

1 USB Type-C™ (DisplayPort™ 1.2, power delivery up to 65 W)

I figured i would be able to connect my laptop directly to this display via USB-C and have the device charge my laptop and display the video.

Currently i am experiencing just a black flicker and no signal or power delivery.

Please help!

Hey there crowdsourcedanswers,

We see that you are having some issues with connecting your MacBook to external HP display that you have provided. We would love to assist you with resolving this.

To clarify, based on the model number you provided, this would be a MacBook, not a MacBook Air. You can see the specs listed below:

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016) - Technical Specifications

Note that for the external display, it supports:

"Graphics and Video Support

  • Intel HD Graphics 515
  • Dual display and video mirroring: simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at 30Hz on an external display, both at millions of colors"

If your HP display is currently set to a higher resolution and refresh rate (say, 60hz vs 30hz), you may need to change the settings on the display in order for the MacBook to work correctly.

If you continue to have issues, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
