Quick Start won’t work

I’m trying to use Quick Start to transfer data from my iPhone 11 Pro Max to my new iPhone 12 Pro. What results is an endless loop of attempts. I get to the stage where the 11 connects with the 12, then I’m asked to sign in to my Apple ID and that’s where the loop begins.

On my 12 I see:

Agree to Terms and Conditions

Apple ID password request

Enter Passcode from Other iPhone

Enter iPhone Passcode

On my 11 I see:

Finish on New iPhone > OK

On my 12 I see:

it returns to Quick Start and the process begins again.

Also if I try to use iCloud, I’m asked to choose a backup. Unfortunately, the most relevant backup (yesterday evening) tells me iOS 14.2 is required. I have 14.2 on my 11 but I can’t install it on the 12.

So there you have it. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello neoone967,

We see you're having an issue with getting Quick Start to work properly. That can certainly be a helpful and quick way to set up the newer iPhone. We'd be happy to help you out with that, if you're still having issues at this time.

With regards to your newer iPhone not being on iOS 14.2, you may choose to skip the Quick Start and iCloud backup restoration for the moment, just to get to the Home screen. From there, you can update to iOS 14.2 at Settings > General > Software Update. After the update completes, you may erase the device at Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. That will get you back to the initial set up screen again.

With regards to Quick Start, you may try using the wired option found in the "Migrate data from your iPhone using a wired connection" section here:

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We hope this helps.

Take care.
