iPhone 12 losing service

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

  • Baseband and Telephony Logging
  • CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

I am surprised this situation has not been addressed properly by the carriers or Apple. They each seem to be ignoring and hoping the problem will go away. Which it will NOT!

Imagine paying hard earned money for a product that only works, "part-time"? Clearly that would be frustrating for all consumers. Nobody likes to waste money.

I was already given a replacement phone and SIM cards and guess what-neither of them corrected the issue. Once again today I have 1 bar, 1 bar of signal strength at home. My phone is resting on the table and only has 1 bar. No reason for that. Unacceptable. Then when I left the house for a short drive, I lost all signal strength for about 4 minutes, had to go in and out of airplane mode for the signal strength to reset. UNACCEPTABLE!

same here I had a few of my comments deleted. It’s not right they’re just trying to hide the problem. Should be offering refunds I’d take my old iPhone 7 over this heavy mini wifi ipad. And I even recall telling the wife no no I’m gonna get the more expensive one so it has no issues because it’s for work. Also I even bought this direct from Apple, thinking o those will be the really good ones. WRONG

I have posted here previously when I complained to Verizon, opened cases with Verizon and nothing was done about it. Then I complained to Apple, opened cases with Apple, even sent some diagnostic info to Apple(as requested) and nothing was done about it. Just silence.

All this IOS updates have done zero to correct the problem. I still have the 12 mini where I worry about losing connection, dropping calls, etc.

At home I was fortunate enough to get a free network extender from Verizon. That resulted in consistently having max bars at home, in the garage and all rooms. So that was an improvement.

IMO, customer service is seriously lacking with this topic. Customers spent a lot of $$ on new phones that are defective.

Did you chat with Apple support using their app? I did chat couple times with time, then of course they can’t fix it thru chat, so they said someone higher will call me the next day, they did. After couple times of complete resetting, I told the lady. I used my phone to work, to call patients. I can’t have a phones not reliable. Apple did order replacement for me. When I got the replacement phone, I called Verizon and told them my connection issue, they set up my phone differently , with primary and 2ndary connection. Then my phone did not have lost connection anymore. Still not able to use the 5G service where I live, but not disconnected.

Did you have primary and 2nady set up with Verizon? Go to your setting , about, to see IMEI and ICCID numbers. I have primary and 2ndary set up and they are two different numbers, the Medi number are the same. Verizon did have to mail me a card to connect. It may help. I got replacement phone from Apple cus the connection issue. Apple gave me an open phone, which I could go any network, so I have to call in to set up the connection with Verizon, told them my problem, then they set up primary and 2ndary foe me. My phone did not loose connection since.

Happy to hear that. I am not Techinical, but my phone is working now, so speaking to Verizon, need to make sure they set up your phone connection differently, the first Rep was just setting up normally, we lost connection while I was setting up. I called back again, the 2nd rep listen to what happened and set up my phone differently. It worked since.

IPhone 12 does not work. It looses signal and service on its own constantly. Please resolve.

I will put that first paragraph on every reply I post.

I need you guys at APPLE to please treat us as you have, in my case, for more than 16 years. WITH RESPECT.

Help us find an answer, gives old phones that work. I do not mind at all as long as they work.

I have family, friends and clients who depend on my availability to communicate as soon as possible.

What are these forums for if not to help those who bring bread to your table.

Let me do the same. I need an Apple phone that works.

I know I'm pretty late to give my two cents here but i know there hasn't been much software update to the iPhone to help with this. I have the 5g variant of the iPhone 12 pro max but i use it here in Fiji so we dont really have 5g yet and still have 4g as the best option. But to the point, I suggest turning on voLTE, instead of putting the settings on 4g. I found it works to suggest my cellular connection to 3g if 4g fails instead of going off the data grid and having ne turn it off and then on again. But then, it depends on how good 3g works for you guys. I really hope its not some hardware issue from apple and can be solved from software updates later on cause it sucks to come from the Samsung note 10 into my first iPhone and having to deal with this among many other ios restricted issues and stuff. Anyways i hope that helps or you can keep turning the data off and on to reset it to the max cellular data for the next few seconds to mins itll allow. ✌️

I continue to have issues with my iPhone 12 mini. In the last week I have people telling me they are calling me but my phone does not ring. These people are not in my contacts and I have my call blocker turned off. So I should be receiving their phone calls, yes?

The same callers instead texted me and that arrived without any issues. Not receiving phone calls on a phone is just unacceptable. Anybody else having the same issue? By the way, I am using the latest & greatest IOS, 14.6

I'm so disgusted with this phone and the constant issues with phone calls/reception, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion to contact my wireless carrier. I did that back in Nov '20, Dec '20 and Jan '21. The results were they sent me a second iPhone 12 mini and the same problem continued. Exact same issues. Eventually a case was opened, a case was opened with Apple as well, diagnostics were sent to Apple and both blamed the other for the trouble=customer was left to suffer with an inferior phone. PATHETIC!

If your phone network speed isn’t also as promised or what you expect, it is also your providers issue. The reason they are not properly connecting is your provider. They must update towers to get these devices connected. Sadly, they have not done so everywhere and are rolling the dice. They know what the issue is and decided to let the customer, us, deal with the incompatibility issues with the towers. When we stream enough, then they will update the one tower. When affordable I will move from Apple as they created a phone with issues on how 5G was implemented and how fallback was implemented. In the end, your provider is ultimately as fault, but Apple knew they created a problem. best thing. Return the Apple device until you get one that works or change models. Nothing wrong with that.
