iMovie won't downgrade

Thanks to Catalina causing a number of problems, I had to downgrade for my old MacBook Pro. So I was recommended to go back a couple upgrades and using Sierra. Now my iMovie won't work. I tried to downgrade by upgrading in the App Store. I had to update my billing info but now it does nothing. I click on iMovie. Under the purple star icon it has a button that says Upgrade (which worked until I updated my billing info) but now the timer keeps circling and it does nothing. So, is there any other way to downgrade my iMovie? BTW, after being a Mac user for 13 years, I am finally fed up because of all this hassle.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

Hi,

This has gotten so tangled up you might need to call Apple Support. They have the capability of remotely accessing your computer, that we can't do here. First try the procedure below to see if you can get the highest version that Sierra will run. Aside from that, you should be running Mojave, not Sierra. No need to have downgraded so far back.

To update/redownload iMovie 10, drag your iMovie 10 app from the Applications folder into the trash, but do not empty the

trash. Sign in to the app store and open your purchases folder by clicking on your name at the bottom of the app store side bar. You will see your purchases displayed, including iMovie 10. Redownload/update iMovie from there. If not successful, drag your present iMovie app out of the trash and return it to the Applications folder. That would be the time to call Apple Support. Click on the Apple Support item in the upper right corner of this forum's screen and navigate to a place where you can enter your phone number.
