iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

I bought the 12 Pro a month ago and had a screen protector installed from day 1 and a case as well, I didn't even use the phone without it. 2 weeks ago I notice a scratch on the side black bezel which is not covered by the screen protector. I have been contemplating about exchanging the phone but then I feel what would be the point, the other one would be just as vulnerable as this one. Trying to embrace it but it does make you mad when your new device gets scratched so easily!

I had my 12 pro max since it came out and never had a problem with it. I heard about people having keys in a pocket with their phone and it scratching so I tried so hard to not do that. Well now that it is winter, I forgot and put my keys with my phone and boom. Two tiny scratches on the screen. So much for this “super strong” and “never before” screen that scratches if you look at it wrong.

Please show me where, ANYWHERE, Apple specifically said "you don't need a screen protector?" I'll make it easy for you. They didn't make such a claim. They said, justifiably so that iPhone screen is "4 TIMESS LESS LIKELY TO BREAK IN A FALL." Inferring that means the screen can't be scratched is an unfortunate conclusion many here have made.

Of course it's worth asking to replace your phone. As long as people also understand that many throughout this thread have done so to be told by Apple, cosmetic damage is not covered under iPhone standard warranty. If someone is uniquely lucky enough to get a free replacement, they should however invest in a good screen protector immediately or face the same issue on a replacement phone.

It is disparaging to call anyone a Troll here. It can also be the cause of a post to be edited or removed by the forum hosts. You can certainly disagree with any of us as long as it's respectful. Referring to anyone however as a troll is not.

I actually called into Apple, and they seem to be taking it seriously. The advertising for it was a little deceptive. I get that it’s better for cracks and that’s great but this easy scratch scenario is almost worse. They’re also very visually dissatisfying scratches. But if more people call in and open a case I think they might do something about it. Just a thought.

I was sceptical searching this question on Google at the first place. But now I am pretty sure the phone's screen is garbage! I had my Iphone 5 SE for 5+ years and it travelled with me the whole world 50+ countries without a screen protector just a case, and not a single scratch on my screen. I've been waiting for Apple to produce another small phone and finally I got 12mini and man! I didn't even leave my home and ordered the case before the phone arrived and I have some weird scratches on the screen after a month. Baby sitting the phone since I got, never had anything else in my pocket with the phone... Of course Apple will consider it user fault and won't do anything. But I am so ******! If they weren't so cocky about how strong the screen was, I would at least get a screen protector... What do we do now?

I had an iPhone 8 for 4 years and never had a scratch on the screen (no screen protector and just a bumper case). I have had the iPhone 12 pro for one week and there are significant scratches on the “strong” ceramic screen. This is not acceptable. Apple is marketing this screen as the strongest yet but clearly this is false marketing. There should be a recall on these screens.

Why are you defending an obvious issue? Why can’t Apple just admit the screen is weak against scratches and NEEDS a glass on top of their glass? This reminds me of the time the iPhone 4 couldn’t be held without a rubber bumper otherwise you’d loose reception. What did Apple say about that back then? They said we are holding our phones the wrong way but sent out free rubber bumpers? Apple will fix this scratch prone glass with their future models and they’ll do it using the money that we (the simple minded) gave them for the iPhone 12s. I’ve got a dead pixel on my new MacBook Air, I’ve scratched my new iPhone 12 Pro glass screen, I’ve returned 3 genuine Apple phone covers due to issues — not happy and not sure I’ll be staying.

Exactly. Calling it "ceramic" is also misleading as many people know that ceramic watch bracelets are known to be extremely scratch-resistant. ceramic watch bracelets are comparable in hardness to tungsten carbide.

Ceramic Shield is called that because there are "ceramic nano-crystals are embedded in the glass matrix using a high-temperature crystallization manufacturing process."

It's not misleading to call something containing ceramic crystals… "ceramic."

That's why you buy a screen protector at time of purchase or even before.

With the 12 Pro Max, I had my screen protector three weeks before the actual phone arrived.

Before COVID, most people buying iPhones at Apple retail stores had screen protectors installed by Apple Store staff before leaving the premises with their new phones.

William, I had screen protector, it cracked, I mentioned this weeks ago. Apple gave me new one. That new one chipped. Still on my phone. Happy to prove it if need be. Mate, seriously, Apple’s glass scratches easily, Belkin’s screen protectors chip easily (my wife’s one also chipped). I know you’ll come back with some lame response but the reality is, people here aren’t happy. We are complaining. Busy people giving up our time to send a messages. We know Apple will read these. We also know they give blind followers who defend them brownie points (Apple points). This is the only logical reason why you constantly defend a weak product sold at premium prices. Look at the people who bought AirPod maxes and have returned them due to condensation issues; read about it in the news. I’m sure if I visited one of those complaint discussions I’ll see another defender William on there telling the user that maybe they should wear them differently or that all noise canceling headphones are affected by condensation (which isn’t true). Apple’s newer glass screens scratch easily. Some don’t want to use screen protectors. What does apple advise that person to do?? Seriously??
