iPhone 12 pro scratched screen

I've only had my iPhone 12 pro for 3 days, haven't left the house & yet I already have significant scratches on the 'super strong' ceramic glass front screen! Anyone else experienced this? #notveryhappy

Well, after contacting both Vodafone (my upgrade provider) and Apple, the response for both was no replacement.. Apple support encouraged me to write up a proper negative feedback, which i did and neither of them offered any care advice.

After a bit of research I bought a screen protector by Mous Uk, what they call hybrid glass, and Im very happy wt it. It comes wt an applicator and instructions and I cannot notice the scratches underneath it now, also the touch response is the same as not using any protector. I just wish I knew beforehand about this screen flaw in the new models as I would have waited and installed this even before i turned on the phone for the first time. I never had that with previous models, my last Iphone XS was used wt no screen protector for two years and nothing like this happened.

Apple should definitely review and improve this glass screen, this is not good enough for a device this expensive. #unimpressed

So you just said you hate screen protectors then ask why Apple doesn’t build one in.

Samsung does include a factory-installed screen protector on their phones; Apple could do the same and raise the price of the phone $30 but instead they allow consumers to choose on their own.

If you don’t buy one and apply it immediately before you use the phone for the first time, well it’s your call and your risk.

I have had my iPhone 12 Pro Max for LESS THAN 24 hours. Today it sat on my desk because my case and screen protector are being delivered this evening.

So when I tell you I BARELY used it all day and barely moved it around, I mean it. However, at one point I pick it up and all of a sudden there are scratches on the top and bottom of the screen. I am so extremely frustrated and confused.

I never dropped it or even slid it across the table or anything. I was SO careful with this thing. The only thing I can think of is that one of my rings touched it and scratched it BUT I've had my iPhone 6s Plus for 6 years now and it only has a few more scratches than this new phone.

WHAT THE HECK APPLE????????

What can I do??!?!?

Not to appear sexist here, but most of the complaining posts are from women. Maybe women with diamond rings. How often have you slipped your hand in your pocket for your phone and brushed against the screen cause you didn’t know the pocket orientation? A few times a day for me. Diamonds will slice a screen like snot on a six year old. Jus’ sayin’

Exactly the same. I’ve had iPhones since 2010, never bothered with a screen protector EVER ( just an edge buffering case for drop protection) and at worst have only ended up with v minor scuffs after a few years use. Within 7 days of receiving my new phone it has 2 very deep gouges in it, so bad I thought the screen had cracked, but I have not dropped it, nor has it been subjected to any trauma. I am at a complete loss as to what has caused these scratches ( or maybe they are cracks? My fingernail clicks if I gently pass it over the defect). Very disappointed, it has really taken the shine off my new purchase - literally.

So why do Apple boast of the new duel ion-exchange process used on the front glass like they do on the back to make the 12 scratch resistant? This apparently protects against scratches, nicks and wear and tear. I posted a photo of that statement on this thread but it was removed!

Why do you and William continue to try and argue with people. The question is at the top of the thread. People are just answering that question. What do we have to do wear white gloves and remove all jewellery before use.

Apple should provide a warning that an screen protector must be purchased if you want your screen scratch free.

The screen is soft!!

Mine is a groove (not a scuff or scratch). I commented about my situation dozens of comments ago and have been following this thread.

my only two additional comments at this point are:

  1. Any change is softness or scratch resistance to the display from earlier version should be communicated up front w additional warning to get a screen protector
  2. I’m actually surprised my screen protector gets little or no scratches or grooves and is harder than the actual display. I’ve had screen protectors shatter (protecting display wonderfully) but never scratch.

I have never had a broken screen. But now I have a brand new phone with scratches on it. I would not have voted for a screen that was harder to break but easier to scratch. Apple did not advertise that trade off with the new ceramic screens. How many average users are going to discover how easily their screen scratches vs how many users drop their phones. I personally, have not dropped any of my phones once since 2010. And before you get all preachy about screen protectors...YES I KNOW...but my screen protector hadn't arrived yet and I did not think for one second that I had to leave my brand new $1500 phone in the box while I waited for the screen protector for a couple of days. There should be a warning on the white cover that is on your phone in the box - DO NOT REMOVE COVER UNLESS IT IS TO ADD A SCREEN PROTECTOR - or maybe - DO NOT USE PHONE WITHOUT A SCREEN PROTECTOR - I am not stupid, or careless, and my screen scratch in under 3 days with gentle use in the hand. Not in a pocket. Not in a purse. And not even outside. This is a design FLAW. Period. It's like having car tires that can't be used outdoors.

Plexiglass is typically 3-4 on the Mohs scale, so being told that would be just as big a lie as being told you "don't need a screen protector."

Also, every Apple Store (both retail and web) along with Best Buy, Target and Walmart all stocked multiple varieties of screen protectors for all iPhone 12 models on the day they launched. I even ordered mine from Power Support a good month before my 12 Pro Max shipped.

Even most carrier stores carry screen protectors in stock.

Apple should sell the phone with a screen protector with it, knowing there are concerns with the screen.

They leave it up to customers to decide which protector, if any to get, and I prefer that.

If you disagree with Samsung, you've already paid for it and get to remove it then install yours.

In my case the AT&T store did not have them and by the time Amazon delivery three days later, it was to late. Now I have to spend another 300 to replace a scratched screen, due to the low-quality screens..

There were many, many models available at Apple, Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

Or you could have left it in the box until you had a protector on-hand.
